Positive COVID-19 Cases Reported At 12 Iredell-Statesville School

IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Positive COVID-19 cases were associated with at least a dozen schools in Iredell County last week, according to the Iredell-Statesville School district. At eight of the schools, people considered to be close contacts of those who were confirmed positive were instructed to quarantine.

As of Aug. 28, at least 2,492 cases had been confirmed in Iredell County, along with 28 deaths, according to Iredell County Health Department. At least 11 percent of the county's total number of cases have been confirmed in children 17 years old or younger, according to data.

"We appreciate our families doing everything they can to help us keep our doors open — wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining social distancing," Boen Nutting, spokesperson for ISS, said in an email. "We are depending on our families to keep children at home if they are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to an individual with symptoms or who is confirmed positive."

The school district, which is comprised of 19 schools, is now releasing a weekly COVID-19 report. The report, however, did not indicate how those who tested positive were affiliated with the school.
