POST GAME REPORT: Alabama fends off Drake, wins 80-71
Alabama fought another hard battle in Orlando during their second game of the ESPN Events Invitational, beating a good Drake team by a final score of 80-71.
Shots that normally go in for the Crimson Tide weren’t quite falling tonight, but they still managed to pull it off in a close matchup that was tight throughout most of the game.
That’s back-to-back games in which Alabama couldn’t catch a break from behind the line.
The Crimson Tide had a great day shooting the ball from the field and finished with 54%. As mentioned earlier, they did have another bad day from the three-point line, finding the bottom of the net on just 26% of those three-point shots. Alabama turned in another bad shooting night from the free-throw line, finishing up with 13-22 from the stripe.
Turnovers were an issue throughout the game for Alabama, who gave up 17 of them.
Alabama was led on the scoreboard by Jahvon Quinerly, who stepped off the court with 18 points and four assists.
JD Davison came off the bench and put up seven points and five rebounds. Jaden Shackelford, Alabama’s leading scorer on the season, scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds. Sophomore forward Juwan Gary contributed a double-double, tallying up 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Defensively, the Crimson Tide gave up 42% shooting, including 36,8% from beyond the arc.
The leading scorer for the Bulldogs was DJ Wilkins with 17 points.
Alabama forced 15 turnovers and scored 20 points off of them.
The Crimson Tide will take on Miami on Sunday for their final game of the ESPN Events Invitational.
