  • A Post Malone fan traded a new pair of Converses for the artist's show-worn sneakers after a concert.

  • Some outlets have called the gesture of Post Malone giving away his "stinky" worn shoes a "heartwarming gesture."

  • Maybe a portion of our collective sanity slipped away over the last few years, in a manner we'll never truly be able to get back.

Normally, when you hear a story about "something wild that went down at a concert," it's for one of two reasons: either somebody got so swept up in the mania of modern fandom that they lost all inhibition, or somebody got really, really high.

To be honest, we're not entirely sure which of those explains this anecdote that recently emerged from a Post Malone concert. We're honestly not sure anything can explain exactly why what went down actually went down. We can tell you that a site called Goalcoast.com described it as, "This genuine moment meant so much to this fan, and the humble gesture has been appreciated by nearly 4 million viewers." And we can promise you that you could never guess what actually happened based on that description alone.

As Post Malone's comments in this TikTok suggest, a fan enticed the "Sunflower" artist from the front row by showcasing a new pair of Converses. After the performance, Post came down to meet the fan. "These are so sick,” he can be heard saying in the video. “I saw them when I was on stage… so I wanted to make sure I could come and grab them."

What came next was a request from the fan that would become what Goalcoast.com called a "heartwarming gesture," but might also reasonably provoke a call for security.

You see, this fan didn't just want to give Post Malone a pair of shoes in exchange for some light banter with the beerbongs & bentleys rapper. No, no. They intended to barter.

"You take mine, I take yours." the fan can be heard saying to Malone, who responds with, "I didn’t know it was a trade." To his credit, and amidst his own confusion, the artist acquiesced, taking off his sneakers worn during his performance to hand to the fan.

Post's team quickly had a pair of white crocs on hand for the singer to switch into, which is maybe the secret highlight of this whole ordeal. The next time you see Post Malone anywhere, just keep in mind that he's apparently got a "Crocs guy" ready at a moment's notice to set him up with the slip-on shoes.

As for the sneakers Post traded away, Malone did offer the warning to the fan: "I’ll have you know … these stink, probably." He then proceeded to hand the worn shoes to the fan, and signed them for her as well.

Or, as Goalcoast.com puts it:

"The famous celebrity then took the actual shoes off his feet. He untied them, picked them up, and handed her the shoes he had worn during his live concert just a few moments earlier.

Post Malone could have refused to take his shoes off his feet. He didn’t need to honor the request. It was a humbling, meaningful moment."

So, you decide: Was this a humbling, meaningful moment between a famous celebrity and a die-hard fan? Or a really strange interaction involving worn shoes that "stink, probably"?
