Temperament missing in Disney vendetta

Dictionary.com defines ‘peevish’ as showing annoyance, irritation, or bad mood; petulant is a synonym of peevish. Florida’s Governor is demonstrating that definition in his actions against Disney. Why is he bent on destroying “The happiest place on Earth”? It was recently reported that he got married there. Has Disney changed, or has he? Has he considered all those who his actions will hurt? How many children and grandchildren would like nothing more than to spend time at Disney World?

The economic ramifications of his actions are significant. Disney World is the top attraction in Florida. Hundreds of thousands of Orlando-area residents and business owners rely on Disney for their livelihoods. How many individual investors, mutual funds and pension plans have large holdings in Disney stock? What about all the hotel and restaurant chains which have invested in the continued economic viability of Disney? Temperament and good judgment are the most important characteristics of a leader. In his efforts to ‘dirty up’ Disney World — he has stated he'd consider putting a prison next door — is the governor displaying those attributes, or something else?Leonard Hanser, Palm Beach Gardens

DeSantis-Disney spat appears Kremlin-ish

In the April 18 edition of The Palm Beach Post, two paragraphs jumped out at me. The first, on page 10A, reads: "A Russian court on Monday convicted a top opposition figure of treason for publicly denouncing Moscow's war in Ukraine and sentenced him to 25 years in prison as part of the Kremlin's relentless crackdown on critics of the invasion."

The second paragraph, on page 6A, in the Disney/Desantis brouhaha story, reads: "Iger added that: "The governor got very angry about the position Disney took and seems like he's decided to retaliate against us, including the naming of a new board to oversee the property and the business. In effect, to seek to punish a company for its exercise of a constitutional right, and that just seems wrong to me." Does anyone see any similarities here or am I just being paranoid?

How far will petulant Governor DeSantis go?

It’s ironic that Gov. DeSantis is petulant and tantrum-prone in his increasingly ridiculous vendetta against Disney, a company devoted to making children’s wishes come true. I would not be surprised if DeSantis were to stage a boxing match with a Disney character to raise more money for his presidential campaign. Of course, whoever donned the Pluto or Mickey costume would be one of his underlings ready to take it on the chin.
