Post-spring depth chart projections for Alabama’s tight ends

Now that spring football has officially wrapped up and the 2023 NFL draft is complete, it is time to shift our focus to the offseason.

Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide have a ton of questions marks exiting spring and fans are chomping at the bit for answers.

So as we dive into the dog days of summer, I thought we could take a look, position by position, and project the possible depth chart for the 2023 Alabama football team post-spring.

Together we have already taken a look at the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers and today we will wrap up the offensive skill positions with the tight ends.

Let’s roll!

I believe the Alabama coaching staff is happy with what they have at the tight end position as we exit spring football. There is plenty of depth and versatility and the tight end usage will likely increase in the 2023 college football season. I believe Alabama has four tight ends that will play significant snaps with the first team, and they could all potentially line up at both the H and the Y positions. While there isn’t a superstar at that position yet, there is plenty of talented depth.

Depth

Miles Kitselman or Ty Lockwood

As I mentioned earlier, I don’t believe you will see each tight end held down at one particular spot this fall. Still, I think Alabama’s primary H will be either Maryland transfer CJ Dippre or redshirt freshman Danny Lewis who really turned some heads this spring. I believe Dippre and Lewis provide Alabama with the most balance at the tight end position and that will likely lead to them earning more snaps than the other options. Robbie Ouzts is the wild card of the bunch. As the 2022 season was closing out, his role began to grow. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the gameplan this fall.

I think every Alabama fan that follows the program closely is excited to see what Amari Niblack may do in his sophomore season in Tuscaloosa. The former five-star prospect has all the tools to be an elite pass-catching tight end but will need to continue to work on being more physical at the line of scrimmage. Again, the versatility of this group is what makes them so interesting. New offensive coordinator Tommy Rees will have plenty of options at tight end this fall.
