‘Potentially dangerous:’ Lexington health department shuts down Chinese restaurant

A Lexington neighborhood restaurant known for its carryout has been closed temporarily by the health department.

According to a sign on the door, Jin Jin Chinese Restaurant at 1060 Chinoe Rd. #148, in the shopping center off Chinoe Road near Creekwood Drive, was shut down on April 7.

It’s unclear if the restaurant is closed permanently; the listed phone number is currently not a working number.

Health department official Luke Mathis said in a statement that the restaurant was closed “for observed priority violations.”

The violations are those deemed “potentially dangerous to safety and health,” according to the health department, such as having no running water, or scoring below 60 on an inspection. Other potential critical violations could include the presence of raw sewage, rodents or insect infestation.

The department did not immediately release the inspection report so it’s unclear exactly what the problem was at Jin Jin Chinese on April 7.

A conference with restaurant management is expected later this week, according to the health department.

The restaurant, which is in the same shopping center as a Kroger grocery store, would have to be reinspected before it would be allowed to open.

The restaurant previously was placed on health department’s probation list, now called enhanced enforcement, in 2018-2020.
