Pothole repair closes I-65 southbound north of Lafayette exits

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Southbound travelers on Interstate 65 found the highway closed Wednesday morning north of Lafayette to allow crews to repair a pothole, Indiana State Police announced.

Any closure of the interstate means congested traffic on state highways, which was the case Wednesday.

Police routed traffic off the interstate at Indiana 18, eastbound to Indiana 43, then southbound to the I-65 ramps near Battle Ground.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Jeremy Piers said he was told the pothole is about the size of a car hood, and is in only one lane. However, crews needed both lanes closed to repair the hole.

The highway was closed about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and repairs are expected to take between eight and 10 hours, Piers said.
