Feb. 23—Those wanting to run for Pottsville Area school board need just 10 signatures, not 100, for their nomination petitions.

Schuylkill County Election Bureau Director Albert L. Gricoski said forms distributed to candidates beginning Feb. 16 did not reflect passage of Act 94 in November 2019, which changed the requirement to the lower number for all districts, including those based in cities.

Questions surfaced last week, Gricoski said.

"In our instructions, we accidentally placed they needed 100 signatures when they only needed 10," he said Monday about the three-page information packet that explains the process, dates and fees, along with the number of signatures needed for potential candidates for various offices. "We gave notification to the chairmen of the Republican and Democratic parties already and those involved that they only need 10. We have it all straightened out."

For other county school districts, the number was already 10, he said.

He said with the change coming after the 2019 election and in an off-year for school board races, no red flags were raised.

"It was an easy oversight," he said.
