Jul. 2—POTTSVILLE — The parking garage on Mahantongo Street is officially, completely open.
City officials were joined by city business leaders, dignitaries from the state, United States Department of Agriculture and D.G. Yuengling and Son President Dick Yuengling to dedicate the new garage Friday afternoon.
The program included welcoming remarks by Parking Authority Executive Director Ian Lipton, who pointed out the garage's features of 222 parking spaces and electric vehicle charging stations.
Also speaking at the ceremony were state Sen. David G. Argall, R-19, Rush Township, Mayor James T. Muldowney and Yuengling.
The mayor said the new structure is "quite impressive."
"It doesn't get any better than this," he said.
A ribbon cutting ceremony at the corner of Mahantongo and South Second streets took place after the program.
The new four-floor garage replaces one that was torn down in 2018 after structural problems were discovered. It was built in 1969 and shut down in 2016.
CPS Construction Inc., Cheswick, was the project's contractor.
