A captured Russian soldier has described a number of issues currently plaguing Russian occupation forces, including a dire lack of food and drinking water, and little to no logistics, according to a video posted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Aug. 28.

The 32-year-old, Klim Maksimovich Berdniguryaev from the Republic of Kalmykia, is a private in the 1008th Regiment of the Russian Army. He previously served time in prison; however, he was recruited from a military recruitment office after serving his sentence.

Berdniguryaev said that he signed a service contract on July 13 and was promised that his criminal record would be cleared and that he would be paid 200,000 rubles ($2,100), but only received 3,500 rubles ($37).

Upon arrival in Ukraine, Berdniguryaev reported that his base had no drinking water, and his unit was forced to forage for food. There was no proper logistics infrastructure, and predictably, corruption was rampant.

During an assault on Ukrainian positions, during which he was captured, Berdniguryaev said he was concussed and left behind by his comrades.
