Power being restored in region, damage reported in Hampton, Ohio Township

Oct. 22—Power was restored to some throughout the region overnight after storms swept through the area Thursday evening and several tornado warnings were issued.

But other areas north of Pittsburgh remained in the dark. There were nearly 1,000 customers in Hampton without power Friday before 6 a.m., according to Duquesne Light. About 370 others in Ross, Shaler, McCandless and Ohio Township areas were still without electricity. There were 250 customers in Scott Township that didn't have power.

Hampton Township seemed to be hit hard.

A tree fell on an occupied vehicle in Hampton near the intersection of Middle Road and John Giel Drive, according to Allegheny County's Twitter account.

Allegheny County officials also reported a tree fell onto a house along the 3900 block of Kirk Avenue in Hampton around 8:20 p.m. No injuries were reported.

There also were multiple reports of wires down along roads throughout Hampton including sections of Linwood, Parkview and Ralph and the Harts Run/Saxonburg intersection. No injuries were reported.

Based on radar imaging, the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh noted the possibility of tornado damage throughout multiple counties in the region where tornado warnings were in effect Thursday, according to meteorologist Myranda Fullerton.

Hampton was included in that area, she said.

Before confirming what caused the damage, she said, "We're going to have to go out and do some storm surveys over the next couple of days."

There were multiple reports from the scene of the Target department store on Mount Nebo Pointe Drive in Ohio Township that the store sustained storm damage, including blown out windows at the front of the store.

Police could not immediately be reached.

Many West Penn Power customers had electricity restored overnight with 939 customers without power just before 6 a.m. Washington County appeared to be the hardest hit area with 517 customers awaiting restoration.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh had issued tornado warnings Thursday evening for Butler County, Washington County and three separate warnings for various parts of Allegheny County and the New Kensington area of Westmoreland County.
