It's all change for Power Book II: Ghost as it storms ahead into its third season.

Behind the scenes, there's a new boss in charge, with showrunner Courtney Kemp stepping to an executive producer's role while Empire's Brett Mahoney takes up the mantle.

But that's only the start of the tweaks being made to the series, as Tariq's on-screen story only stands to get more complicated.

So, what exactly lies in store? Here's everything you need to know about what's coming up – and when you can expect to see the show back on our screens.

"The continued success and cultural resonance of the Power universe is unprecedented, and fans are clearly still hungry for more Power Book II: Ghost," said Jeffrey Hirsch, president and CEO of Starz.

"We're excited for the third season of the star-studded series to get into production early next year just ahead of the debut of Power Book IV: Force, the fourth instalment in the rapidly expanding franchise."

Here's everything you need to know about Power Book II: Ghost season three.

In December 2022, it was confirmed that the series would return on March 17, 2023 (it'll air on Lionsgate+ in the UK – new episodes will stream on the service every Friday).

Filming finished in August, 2022. Ghost stars Gianni Paolo and Michael Rainey Jr made the announcement on The Crew Has It podcast which they jointly host.

"We wrapped; we're done filming," Paolo revealed.

"Yeah, we just got done filming season three that y'all have been asking for," Rainey chimed in, adding, "so we can finally give you… not a date, because we don't know yet, but now that we're finished, that's all we can tell you. Everything else is in the works."

While both remained tight-lipped about the specifics of what's to come, Rainey was kind enough to tease that when it comes to season three "they're coming in hot".

Ah yes, that's exactly what we wanted to hear! As if we ever expected anything different.

Power Book II: Ghost season 3 cast: Who's in it?

The show centres around Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr), son of James 'Ghost' St Patrick and Tasha Green-St Patrick, so we can expect him to return alongside the core cast:

• Mary J Blige as Monet
• Berto Colon as Lorenzo Tejada
• Lovell Adams-Gray as Dru Tajada
• Woody McClain as Cane Tejada
• LaToya Tonodeo as Diana Tejada
• Gianni Paolo as Brayden Weston
• Cliff 'Method Man' Smith as David Maclean
• Shane Johnson as Cooper Saxe
• Redman as Theo Rollins

Season two saw the deaths of popular characters Professor Carrie Milgram (Melanie Liburd), her high-school lover Ezekiel 'Zeke' Cross (Daniel Bellomy) and Daniel Sunjata's Mecca/Danté Spears. Though, that doesn't mean they won't make a return to the show in flashbacks or other scenes.

Lethal Weapon star Keesha Sharp will be joining season three as a recurring character in a major role. Sharp will play Professor Harper Bonet, "a progressive intellectual and boho beauty" (via Deadline). As production ramps up, we could expect more cast announcements.

In March, Deadline reported that three more stars have been added to the cast list – Gbenga Akinnagbe, Kyle Vincent Terry and Caroline Chikezie.

Gbenga, who previously appeared on The Deuce, will play Ron Samuel Jenkins, better known as RSJ. The business magnate knows his way around the elite, after working his way through university and Harvard business school to get to where he is today.

Gotham star Kyle is taking on the role of Obi, a British educated man who is just as used to handling a cracking business deal as he is handling a gun.

While Caroline (of Mayhem fame) is Noma, someone Deadline describes as "a worldly and powerful woman with a regal presence who has built her wealth with an illicit global empire and is not afraid to protect it by any means necessary".

Power Book II: Ghost season three plot: What will happen?

Following season two's explosive finale, Monet is sure to find out her husband Lorenzo Tejada (Berto Colon) killed her son Zeke in a case of mistaken identity.

After getting away with the murder of Professor Jabari Reynolds (Justin McManus), Tariq, who initially wanted out of the drugs game, has decided to remain and become the new connect now that Mecca's out of the picture.

On the flip side, Brayden – who saved Tariq from a life in prison after confessing to being the student selling drugs on campus, and exposing himself as the CEO of their drug peddling app Course Correct – betrayed him when he set up Tariq's college girlfriend Lauren, whose body was found after a car accident.

"I just know that Tariq’s going to be making some money, and obviously, he’s going to be fighting a lot because he’s trying to figure out what’s going on with Lauren and how her situation went because he doesn’t really know what happened," Rainey teased in an interview with PopSugar.

She continued: "It's going to be hard for [Brayden] to hide one secret from Tariq. You know Tariq, he's smart, he's going to figure out something. He's going to get to the bottom of what he wants to get to the bottom of.

"So it's definitely going to be some up and downs in [those] relationships and that's one thing I'm excited to see: the rocky road that they're about to start. It's going to be crazy."

"He ended season one with some trouble, he ended season two with some trouble, so he's going to start season three in some trouble for sure . . . Tariq ties up these loose ends and as soon as those get tied up, another end gets loose."

"Tariq doesn't really know what he wants to do, as you saw in the the finale . . . All the troubles he's got going on and all the money he's going to have to spend, who knows what he's going to do? He might have to step one foot back into the game. It's hard for Tariq right now. He's in a very confusing predicament."

But whatever happens, the situation will escalate.

"One thing I can tease is that as soon as he ties up one loose end, another one becomes loose, as y'all saw in episode 10," Michael Rainey Jr revealed to TV Line. "There's going to be a lot on his plate coming into season three, as it was coming into season two, there's going to be a lot on his plate, just like in season two."

The finale also saw the return of NYPD detective Blanca Rodriguez (Monique Gabriela Curnen) who was revealed to be the cop assigned to confidential informant Mecca. Holding a grainy picture of Tariq, Blanca's return is sure to pose major issues for Tariq as she investigates Mecca's shooting.

Season three is also set to ramp up with Cooper Saxe joining forces with Prosecutor Jenny Sullivan (Paton Ashbrook) to inform on Davis MacLean's dodgy lawyering. Meanwhile, MacLean himself is working on getting his brother Theo Rollins out of prison for a murder that he did not commit.

All we know for certain – thanks to Rainey's words from the The Crew Has It podcast – is that it won't disappoint, which means at the very least we can expect the same level of excitement as previous seasons.
