'The Power of the Dog' hits the AFI film festival

The film has been predicted to be a mainstay during awards season for both director Campion and the story's lead Benedict Cumberbatch, who famously stayed in character as a cowboy in 1920s Montana.

Cumberbatch plays the domineering Phil Burbank whose world is turned upside down when his brother George brings home a new wife and her teenage son.

His character sets out to bully the two newcomers into his life.

Actor Kirsten Dunst, who plays Phil's sister-in-law, got to play scenes with her partner, actor Jesse Plemons, who plays her husband in the film.

The Power of the Dog" will go on limited release in theaters on November 17, before streaming on Netflix on December 1.
