Power: What happened to each character – and what their fates mean for the spin-offs

From Digital Spy

Power spoilers follow

In the final and deadliest season of Power, a number of cast regulars including Angela Valdes (Lela Loren), Joe Proctor (Jerry Ferrara), LaKeisha Grant (Lala Anthony), Andre 'Dre' Coleman (Rotimi) and Jason Micic (Mike Dopud) – to name a few – met their grisly ends.

The show came to its climax midway through season six, when potential New York Lieutenant Governor James St Patrick (Omari Hardwick) – better known as Ghost – was fatally shot in his nightclub Truth.

The rest of the season focused on 'who shot Ghost?', and the finale revealed that Ghost's very own son Tariq St Patrick (Michael Rainey Jr) killed his father in a bitter feud that had been building up over the seasons.

With Ghost's death meaning the 'end' of Power as we know it, Starz has commissioned four new spin-off shows in the Power universe including a prequel and three more set around the aftermath of James St Patrick's death.

Here's who is still alive and what this means for their characters as we move into the expanded Power universe.

Power Book II: Ghost

As hinted in the trailer, Power Book II: Ghost will be a continuation of the show's explosive season finale. The Power season six finale revealed that all of Ghost's wealth would be divided among his children, with two-thirds going to Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr).

However, this was to be held in a trust until Tariq completed a four-year degree with at least a 3.5 GPA. Power Book II: Ghost will see Tariq try to save his family while completing college in order to get his inheritance.

Newcomers Monet (Mary J Blige) – a very successful businesswoman who producer Courtney A Kemp describes as running her business 'with an iron fist' – and her daughter Diana (LaToya Tonodeo) were confirmed for the spin-off in this first look.

Rapper and actor Method Man has also been confirmed for the spin-off as attorney Davis Maclean.

In the final season of Power, Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton) set up her own empire which was cut short. Tasha was then sent to jail as she took the fall for Ghost's murder. Could the spin-off see Tasha free and become Monet's rival? We hope so.

Another returnee is reinstated District Attorney Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson). With his obsession with Ghost well and truly dead, he'll have plenty of time to investigate Monet's line of business.

As for Ghost himself? His return hasn't been confirmed, however the show is known for bringing characters back from the dead. Angela Valdes returned after her murder as part of Ghost's dreams, and Kanan Stark (50 Cent), who was killed off in season five, made a surprise return as the conscience of Tariq as he thought about killing his father. Perhaps we could see a Ghost return after all.

Kanan Stark (50 Cent) was brutally killed off at the end of season five. The character returned in the season finale in Ghost's visions in season six's 'No One Can Stop Me' which focused on Ghost's version of events before his death, and, as already mentioned, as part of Tariq's conscience.

Power has already shared an end-credits scene from Raising Kanan which shows a young Tommy Egan (Ethan Cutkosky), James St Patrick (Chris Sumpter) and Angela Valdes (Camila Perez) at high school, confirming that filming has already begun on the prequel. The lead role of Kanan will be played by actor Mekai Curtis and joins Patina Miller who will play Kanan's mother.

Power Book IV: Influence

The third spin-off series will be all about Ghost's main rival – Councilman Rashad Tate. Influence will follow Rashad Tate's quest for political power as he continues the fight to be voted Governor of New York City.

The last we saw of Councilman Tate he had hired two hitmen tasked with killing James St Patrick who failed, and Tate himself was on his way to Truth to carry out the deadly deed but was stopped in his tracks by a reporter who confirmed St Patrick's death.

No other cast members have been confirmed for Influence but we could perhaps see Tate's on and off screen brother Kamaal Tate (Lahmard Tate) and political strategist Ramona Garrity (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) return to the Power universe.

After Tommy killed his lawyer Joe Proctor (Jerry Ferrara) for keeping evidence that could put Tommy and Ghost away for good, the death of his ride-or-die girlfriend LaKeisha Grant (Lala Anthony), and finally forgiving Ghost for LaKeisha's death – it was Tasha after all – Tommy, haunted by Ghost's death, leaves New York in the rear view mirror of his signature blue Ford Mustang as he heads West to Los Angeles.

Speaking on Instagram Live, the Power star confirmed that the spin-off has been put on hold, saying: "There's gonna be a Tommy spin-off and I'm happy about that, I was happy about the Ozark thing and then I had a couple of other jobs that were in the mix but you know the Covid really shut everything down."

And as for what Tommy's up to, Sikora said "Tommy's gonna try to get out to Los Angeles and take over LA a little bit".

Power aired on Starz in the US, and is available on Netflix in the UK.
