POWER Library adds 350 new e-books for PA library card holders

As the summer season approaches and Pennsylvania families plan for long car rides or sitting at the beach, a new wave of e-books will be available for free with their library card.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education announced on Wednesday that they will be adding 350 new titles to their POWER Library website, allowing library card holders across the state to download a wide selection of e-books. These new additions will bring the total number of books available for public access to nearly 20,000 different titles.

"Through POWER Library, Pennsylvanians have access to e-content to supplement K-12 education and higher education,” said Deputy Secretary for the Office of Commonwealth Libraries Susan Banks. “This is an effective way to provide equitable access to resources for Pennsylvanians via internet and devices, because schools and people without a dedicated public library can access all of these titles online through POWER Library.”

The new titles available will be focused on subjects such as diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, mental health issues and various STEM fields. In addition to these books, users will still retain access to thousands of fiction novels and other reading materials online.

The books on POWER Library can be accessed with any public library card, but those without a library card can also sign up for an electronic card for immediate access to the titles. Access to POWER Library also includes streaming for films and audio books as well.

Additional electronic library resources for Beaver County

While those with a Beaver County Library Card will have unlimited access to the POWER Library system, there are some additional apps that can be used with local libraries.

For those looking for their next e-book or audiobook on the go, Beaver County Libraries offer access to thousands of popular titles on the CloudLibrary app. Operating similar to physical book rentals, app users can rent these digital titles for access through web browsers on the app available for Android and Apple devices.

CloudLibrary access also provides the opportunity to use NewsStand, a similar service for popular magazines and newspapers. Fans of comic books can use their card for access to ComicsPlus, which has hundreds of comic book series and manga chapters for readers of all ages.

If library card holders are looking for films, they also have access to Kanopy. After logging in with your library card number, the service offers thousands of movies to watch for free and continually adds new titles to the service.
