Power Rankings: South Bend Washington remains in a class by itself; Northridge makes move

The Washington girls basketball team continues to answer every challenge thrown its way.

The top-ranked Panthers, who are also nationally ranked, continued its unbeaten season Saturday with an impressive 69-63 home win over Illinois power Bolingbrook. The win improved Washington's season mark to 14-0, while it was the first loss of the season for Bolingbrook.

Sophomore Kira Reynolds continued to prove why she's one of the top players in the Class of 2025. The 6-3 forward had 23 points, 13 rebounds, seven blocked shots and four assists in Saturday's win.

The Panthers also got a gutty effort from captain Amiyah Reynolds. The senior Miss Basketball candidate and Maryland bound point guard played despite a groin injury and being ill. Reynolds, who had missed the Glenn game and had not practiced all week due to a groin injury suffered the previous weekend, had 13 points Saturday.

Washington leads the state in scoring at 80 ppg. and in average margin of victory at 45 ppg. The team is averaging 20 steals per game, led by sophomore defensive dynamo Ryiah Wilson at 6.6 and star senior guard Rashunda Jones at 4.7.

Kira Reynolds is averaging 18.5 points to go with 13.4 rebounds and 5.6 blocked shots per game. Jones is the top scorer at 19.1 ppg. Amiyah Reynolds has done it all at 16.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists per contest.

Marian also continues its impressive season. The Class 3A power Knights picked up a key NIC win at Elkhart last Friday night. Coach Steve Scott's team, led by All-Star hopeful Nevaeh Foster, is 12-2 overall and 7-1 in league play.

Northridge continued its impressive season with a 63-51 win over Penn Tuesday night. The Raiders are now No. 3 in the list of top area teams. Here's a look at the South Bend Tribune's Top 10:

1. South Bend Washington

The Panthers, who are ranked No. 1 in 4A poll and coaches poll (regardless of class), sit at 14-0 overall and 8-0 in the NIC. Washington returns to action Dec. 29 with two games in the Warsaw Tournament versus Winchester and Columbia City.

2. Mishawaka Marian

The Knights were No. 7 in the latest ICGSA 3A poll. Marian is 12-2 overall and 7-1 in the NIC with a league game versus Adams up next Thursday night.

3. Northridge

The Raiders, who were No. 12 in latest 4A poll, beat Penn Tuesday night as Eva Fisher had 24 points and seven rebounds. Northridge is 12-2.

4. Penn

The Kingsmen fell to 8-5 with their loss to Northridge Tuesday night. Penn sits at 4-2 in NIC play with league losses to Washington and Marian.

5. Fairfield

The Falcons improved to 12-2 with a 65-24 win over NorthWood Tuesday night. Fairfield, ranked No. 10 in 3A, bounced back from a loss Saturday to Fort Wayne Snider.

6. Elkhart

The Lions topped Goshen 51-36 Tuesday night in a non-conference game. Coach Will Coatie's team is 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the NIC.

7. Bethany Christian

The Bruins continue to roll at 10-1 on the season. Coach Krysten Parson's team, which is ranked No. 7 in Class 1A, plays Argos Thursday night.

8. LaVille

The Lancers lost a close one in a 33-30 final to Glenn Tuesday night. LaVille, which dropped a tough conference game to a strong Pioneer team Friday night, is 10-4.

9. South Bend Adams

The Eagles, who are 7-5, have a huge NIC matchup at Marian Thursday night.

10. NorthWood

The Panthers sit at 7-5 after a 65-24 loss to Fairfield Tuesday night.

Others to watch: New Prairie (8-6), South Central (11-2)
