Forty-seven Wisconsin Public Service customers on the Door County peninsula remained without electricity as of 2:30 p.m. Friday after severe winds Wednesday night and throughout the day Thursday toppled trees onto power lines across the county.

At one point Thursday, more than 4,200 WPS customers in the county were without power, and more than 100,000 across Wisconsin, when the storm that started around 11 p.m. Wednesday blew through with sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of more than 60 mph reported by the National Weather Service in Sturgeon Bay and Sister Bay.

Most Door County customers had their electricity back by Friday morning, but more than 500 from Sturgeon Bay to the tip of the county didn't get back their power until during the day.

An outage just southeast of Sister Bay affecting 258 customers was resolved at about 2 p.m. Friday, and the last remaining outage affecting a pocket of customers was near Clark Lake in Jacksonport, where 42 were without power. Power is estimated to be restored there by 10 p.m. Friday, according to WPS. One- and two-customer outages still were being repaired in Egg Harbor, Ephraim, Peninsula Center and Baileys Harbor.
