The Power star Toni Collette has revealed the scene she was most nervous about filming.

The brand-new sci-fi series from Amazon Studios, based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Naomi Alderton, stars Collette as Margot Cleary-Lopez, the mayor of Seattle.

Set in a time when every teenage girl on Earth suddenly develops the ability to electrocute people at will, The Power follows the aftermath of this event and the worldwide shift in power that ensues.

In one scene, Collette's Seattle mayor delivers a powerful speech where she bravely tells the public the truth about what is really going on with the teenagers' newfound power.

Speaking to Radio Times about the speech scene, Collette said that she felt "nervous" due to its significance within the story.

"We're working with really incredible material. I was actually a little bit nervous about that [scene], because it is an absolute pivot for the character and for the story," Collette explained.

"Because everyone's trying to suppress this truth, this new evolution – it's a serious change that's affecting people, young females specifically, all around the world, with a knock-on effect of affecting everybody, society at large. And nobody is telling the truth about it," she added.

"I just find that moment very telling about my character, because she has so many responsibilities – she's a mum and she's married to this beautiful man and she's the mayor of a city. And she's suddenly thrust into this position of realising she's the only one.

"You know, that moment of like, 'Oh my God, I'm the one who has to step up and say this, I'm actually the truth teller here'."

According to Collette, her character realises that life will never be the same again, and she has to tell people to "let go of life as it was".

"So I did enjoy doing it and I was a little bit nervous about it as well."

The Power is streaming now on Prime Video with new episodes releasing weekly on Fridays.
