Powerball $1.765 billion jackpot won in Frazier Park, California

The Powerball jackpot has been won!

One ticket sold in California matched all six balls to win the estimated $1.765 billion jackpot, according to the Powerball website. The winner also can take cash option estimated at $774.1 million.

The jackpot winning ticket was sold at the Midway Market & Liquor on Frazier Mountain Park Road in Frazier Park, according to the California Lottery.

It was the second largest Powerball and also the second largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever (see charts below). And the winners of the largest jackpots ever both came from California.

“Congratulations to the newest Powerball billionaire and the millions of Powerball players who won other cash prizes in last night’s drawing,” said Drew Svitko, Powerball Product Group Chair and Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director. “For 31 years, some players who have dreamed about winning a Powerball jackpot have defied the odds, and in doing so, have helped generate critical funding for public services and programs supported by U.S. lotteries.

“If you bought a Powerball ticket during this jackpot run, please know that a portion of that ticket will stay in your home state to make it a better place to live.”

The jackpot had last been won on July 19 when a lottery player in California won the $1.08 billion jackpot.

The jackpot now resets to $20 million for Saturday night's drawing.

Million-dollar prizes

In addition to the jackpot, nine tickets sold matched the five white balls to win million-dollar prizes. Two tickets sold in Arizona and Pennsylvania had the Power Play to win $2 million, while tickets sold in Florida (2), New York, Oklahoma and Virginia each won $1 million. Two tickets sold in California also won $760,111 each because California bases its non-jackpot prizes on sales in the state.
