It's hard to even fathom what $1.73 billion could buy.

That's the amount in Wednesday's Powerball jackpot. Still, the latest jackpot is not even the largest one the Powerball has ever seen.

At an estimated $1.73 billion with a cash value of $756.6 million, the jackpot is now the second-largest in the Powerball's history, recently passing the $1.586 billion jackpot from three winning tickets in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016, according to a USA TODAY article.

The largest Powerball jackpot ever was won in November 2022 by a single ticket in California, worth $2.04 billion, according to USA TODAY.

The current Powerball jackpot has been building since July, when the winning ticket worth $1.08 billion was sold in Los Angeles.

Could a Rhode Islander become an overnight billionaire? The next Powerball drawing is tonight at 10:59 p.m. Drawings are every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

And of course, there's Mega Millions, too. Tuesday's jackpot rolled over, so Friday's Mega Millions grand prize will climb to $48 million with a $21.2 million cash option.
