Powerball jackpot inches to $1 billion: See winning numbers for Sep. 27, 2023 and when's the next drawing

Wednesday night's Powerball drawing has left the jackpot toeing the line of $1 billion.

The Powerball jackpot now sits at an estimated $925 million, with a cash value of $432.4 million, after Wednesday night's drawing didn't lead to a winner once again. The last jackpot winner in July hit for $1.08 billion. Could it happen again?

The jackpot for this round is currently the fourth-largest prize in Powerball's history and sits at number nine of the highest lottery payout of all time. To break that rank it would have to reach more than $1 billion.

What were the Powerball winning numbers for Sept. 27, 2023?

The winning numbers from Wednesday, Sept. 27 were 1, 7, 46, 47 and 63. The red Powerball was 7 and the Power Play was 3X.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next drawing is Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11 p.m. ET.

Powerball drawings are held three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.

Did anyone win Powerball Wednesday night?

Nobody won the Powerball jackpot last night, but there were some others who made off with some extra money in their pocket.

Wednesday's drawing had more than 1.8 million winning tickets across the country, including four tickets in California, Kansas, Maryland and New York that matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes.

How often does the lottery hit $1 billion or more?

Having Powerball or Mega Millions hit the $1 billion mark isn't as uncommon as it used to be.

In the last five years, there have been eight jackpots between Mega Millions and Powerball that have gone over the $1 billion mark. And three of those happened in 2023.

The first came in January with a $1.53 billion Mega Millions winner. Next, a $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot in July. The latest was a $1.63 billion Mega Million jackpot in August.

The highest lottery jackpot came in November 2022 at $2.04 billion. It was the second jackpot over $1 billion that year. Before that the only other times a jackpot hit over a billion was in 2021, 2018 and 2016.

  • To play Powerball, you first select five white ball numbers. These five numbers will be between one and 69. Then, pick one "Powerball," or red ball, number. This number will be between one and 26.

  • For an extra dollar, you may choose to "power play," which multiplies all non-grand prize winnings by a factor of 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10.

  • If you match at least one number in the Powerball drawing, you win a prize.
