Powerball player in Tallahassee wins $2 million in July 19, 2023, drawing for $1.08 billion

A $2 ticket made a Tallahassee resident $2 million richer.

The capital city resident, who was not named, won $2 million in the Wednesday, July 19, Powerball drawing. Their Powerball ticket matched all five white balls, which nets $1 million, and a Power Play bonus doubled their payout to $2 million.

The announcement of the powerball winner came just a day after another Tallahassee man won $2 million after spending $10 on a scratch-off lottery ticket bought from the Campus Edge Food Mart, 695 W. Virginia St. With a 1 in 3.12 chance of winning the $2,000,000 BONUS CASHWORD Scratch-Off game, Dwight Rozier beat the odds and went home with his one-time, lump-sum payment of $1.645 million.

The $2 million Powerball winner bought the ticket at Publix on North Blair Stone Road and chose to pick their own numbers instead of using the automated "quick pick" option.

Four $1 million winning tickets, which matched all five numbers but not the Powerball, were also sold in Florida in Sumter County, Pasco County, Indian River County and Clay County.

The winner of the sixth-highest lottery payout ever came out of Los Angeles, winning a cool $1.08 billion, the largest Powerball payout since November's record-setting, history-making $2.04 billion jackpot.

Which Florida county has the most lottery winners?

Although Brevard County takes the top spot on Florida's list of luckiest counties, according to a story in the Naples Daily News, Leon County ranks in the 50th percentile among Florida's 67 counties.

I bought my Powerball ticket in another state. Can I cash out in Florida?

No. According to Florida Lottery rules, Powerball winnings have to be claimed in the state where the ticket was purchased.

How many Powerball winners are there?

Though there was a grand prize Powerball winner from California, it wasn't all bad news: Several in Florida won in that lottery game.

Aside from the $2 million winner from Tallahassee and the four $1 million Match 5 prize winners across the state, there were also more than 20 tickets across the country matching the $1 million Match 5 prize.

Those tickets were purchased in California (7), Massachusetts (3), Maryland (2), New Jersey (2), New York (5), Texas (4), and one each in Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, New Hampshire, Ohio, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

There were three tickets matching five numbers plus the Power Play for $2 million prizes in Tallahassee, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
