Powerball player wins $100,000 with ticket bought at a Richmond Speedway station

RICHMOND, Ind. — Someone has won $100,000 with a Powerball ticket bought in Richmond.

The Hoosier Lottery announced Friday that the local ticket is among three sold in Indiana that won $100,000 in Wednesday night's drawing. The ticket was purchased from the Speedway gas station at 126 S.W. Fifth St.

Other $100,000 tickets were bought at a Circle K on East Third Street in Bloomington and at a Pak-A-Sak on County Road 10 in Elkhart. In addition, tickets winning $50,000 were purchased at Georgetown Shell on East State Boulevard in Fort Wayne, the Speedway on South 14th Street in New Castle and Triangle Liquors on North Calumet Avenue in Valpraiso.

Wednesday's winning Powerball numbers are 2-11-22-35-60 with the Powerball of 23.

The winning ticket holders should ensure their ticket is in a secure place, consider meeting with a financial advisor and contact Hoosier Lottery customer service at 1-800-955-6886 for specific claim instructions, according to the Hoosier Lottery.

No ticket claimed the top Powerball prize in Wednesday's drawing, so the jackpot grows to an estimated world record of $1.6 billion for Saturday's drawing.

Richmond Speedway stations have a history of selling tickets that win large Powerball prizes, although none has come close to $1.6 billion.

David Coterel of Riverside, Ohio, won a $314.3 million Powerball prize in August 2007 with a ticket bought at the National Road East Speedway.

Thirteen machinists from Westerville, Ohio, claimed a $295.7 million Powerball prize in July 1998 with a ticket bought at the same Speedway that sold this week's $100,000 winning ticket.

In Cambridge City, the Speedway gas station at Indiana 1 and Interstate 70 sold the winning ticket to the July 8, 2016, $536 million Mega Millions drawing. A Hamilton County family bought that ticket.

Other large lottery prize-winning tickets sold locally include:

  • A $20.1 million Hoosier Lottery ticket bought by Kevin Faidley in October 2003 at the BP station on National Road West in Richmond;

  • A $6 million Hoosier Lotto ticket bought by Darryl Sheets in January 2009 at Rihm's Drive-In Liquors; and

  • A $1 million Powerball ticket bought by Richard Heaton in February 2014 at the Hometown Mini Mart in Fountain City.

In addition, a 68-year-old Cambridge City man named Randall won a $255,500 CA$H 5 jackpot in January with a ticket purchased at Bob-O-Link Liquors in Cambridge City.
