PPD, Academy Sports take 10 kids on Christmas shopping spree
The Pensacola Police Department and Academy Sports + Outdoors teamed up to give local children a Christmas shopping spree.
Thursday morning at the Academy Sports store on 7171 N. Davis Highway, PPD officers went shopping alongside 10 students to help them pick out items like winter clothing, footwear, games, sports equipment and more.
The participating students were nominated by officers and each youth received a $150 Academy gift card to shop during the event.
Danylen Moorer, a Booker T. Washington High School student, was paired up with Community Outreach Division Officer David Patrick. Moorer picked out some clothing and a basketball, and joked with Patrick over who would win a game of one-on-one.
"It's great that I had this opportunity to shop with a cop and get nice things," Moorer said. "I appreciate the opportunity."
This is the third consecutive year Pensacola Police Department and Academy have partnered during the holiday season to make a positive impact on the community.
