Prairie Central claims two wins, Fieldcrest keeps on rolling

FAIRBURY — Prairie Central hit from everywhere — inside, outside, the free throw line — and that was just the first quarter as the Hawks hosted Illinois Valley Central in an Illini Prairie Conference girls' basketball game Monday.

The end result was a 44-23 victory for the Hawks.

Chloe Sisco hit a 3-pointer, three players scored on the interior while two players made free throws as six Hawks made the scoring column. PC scored 13 points in taking a nine-point lead.

Prairie Central was outscored in the second period but still held an 18-13 lead at the break. A 12-4 difference in the third frame pushed the Hawks' advantage to 30-17. PC put the game away in the last stanza.

Sisco had 14 points while Mariya Sisco collected 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Hawks (18-6). Curl also scored 10 points while Lucy Whitfill and Clare Strong tossed in 4 points apiece. Gyllian Davies and Gracie Edelman each scored 1 point.

Fieldcrest 58, Fisher 25

FISHER — Fresh off winning the Heart of Illinois Conference (aka McLean County) Tournament, Fieldcrest continued to fly as the Knights routed Fisher 58-25 in regular-season league play Monday.

Fieldcrest connected for 29 points in building a 22-point advantage over the Bunnies the first quarter. Fisher was unable to score enough points over the final three frames to even get to the Knights' first-quarter total.

It was a 42-16 halftime lead for Fieldcrest, and the margin grew to 58-18 through three periods.

Ella Goodrich led Fieldcrest (24-1, 9-1) with 16 points and Kaitlin White contributed 14 points. Carolyn Megow collected 10 points and 10 rebounds while Ashlyn May also scored 10 points. Haley Carver hit for 5 points.

TCC Tournament

GRANVILLE — Woodland went to the left bracket after falling 77-38 to Seneca in Tri-County Conference Tournament play Monday.

Seneca rocketed to a 31-8 lead in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way. The Irish, led by Pfeifer with four makes, chalked up five 3-pointers in the opening frame. Pfeifer scored 14 points in the first quarter and added 10 in the second. He finished with 30 points for the Irish, including making eight treys in three quarters of play.

Phoenix Cooper scored all of Woodland's points in the first period and finished with 17 points for the night. Chris Stasko added 7 points for the Warriors and Connor Dodge finished with 4 points.

Weekend

Prairie Central 47, LaSalle-Peru 30

FAIRBURY — Prairie Central got off to fast start and didn't look back in routing LaSalle-Peru 47-30 in a nonconference girls' basketball game over the weekend.

The Hawks scored 22 points in the first period to lead by 19 points early. It was a 31-13 game by the intermission and PC held a 34-26 lead despite scoring just three points in the third frame.

Katy Curl had the lone field goal for the Hawks in the last stanza as PC sank 10 free throws to seal the win.

Curl finished with 13 points and Chloe Sisco tossed in 12 markers for Prairie Central (17-6). Mariya Sisco chalked up 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double double. Clare Strong scored 8 points.

Midland 61, Dwight 48

VARNA — Dwight was unable to sustain its strong second-quarter push as Midland rebounded to claim a 61-48 Tri-County Conference decision over the weekend.

The Timberwolves led 17-11 after the first quarter but the Trojans turned the tables on the home the hosts in the second. Led by Kaleb Duden, Dwight chalked up 21 markers in the second in outscoring Midland 21-12 for a 32-29 halftime lead.

DTHS came out of the break and scored just five points as the Timberwolves regained the advantage, 43-37, after three periods and then pulled away down the stretch.

Wyatt Thompson led Dwight with 19 points and Jeremy Kapper chipped in 12. Duden dropped 7 points with Connor Telford scoring 5, Landon Brown scored 3 and Gavin Wykes netted 2 points.

McLean County Tournament

BLOOMINGTON — It's called the McLean County Tournament but it might have doubled as the Woodford County Classic as the teams playing for championships all came from outside of McLean.

And for the fans of Eureka, they suffered a double loss as the boys and girls fell short in their title bids of the event that doubles as the Heart of Illinois Conference tournament. Fieldcrest captured the girls' championship and El Paso-Gridley claimed the boys' title in the finals played at the Shirk Center.

Fieldcrest 47, Eureka 28

In the girls' final, it was top-seeded Fieldcrest rolling to the title with a 47-28 win over Eureka. The Knights blew the game open in the second period after the two teams played to a 6-6 tie in the opener. An 12-3 difference for Fieldcrest gave the tourney favorites an 18-9 advantage. It was still nine-point game entering the fourth period as each side put up 11 points in the third.

The Knights closed the door on the Hornets with an 18-8 fourth frame for the win.

Ella Goodrich paced the Knights (23-1) with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Ashlyn May contributed 10 points, 7 assists and 6 boards and Carolyn Megow scored 8 points. Kaitlin While collected 7 points and 6 boards.

EPG 59, Eureka 52

A fourth-quarter surge by El Paso-Gridley included perfection from the free throw line as the Titans swatted the Hornets 59-52.

The game was tight EPG led 30-26 at the half after the twi sides played to a 12-12 tie after one quarter. Eureka fought back to make it a 42-41 game entering the last stanza.

EPG was able to maintain a lead and iced the game from the charity stripe by making all eight attempts over the final eight minutes.

Luke Ihlenfeldt scored 17 points to lead the Titans' (19-2) attack. Asa Smith added 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds while Jake Funk collected 11 points and 7 boards. Micah Meiss scored 9 points.

El Paso-Gridley reached the title round with a 58-36 win over LeRoy in the semifinals. Ihlenfeldt hit for 18 points to pace EPG, who outscored the Panthers 33-6 in the middle periods. Smith added 11 points and Funk scored 10.

Ridgeview 53, EPG 46

In the girls' fifth-place game, Ridgeview was outscored by 14 points in the fourth quarter but the Mustangs had already built a huge advantage and was able to hold on for a 53-46 win.

Ridgeview was up 43-22 through three periods.

Peyton Rinkenberger scored 23 points and Annalyn Harper had 12 for Ridgeview (15-7).

Jordyn Cannon hit for 18 points to pace El Paso-Gridley (10-12). Kaylea Randall added 13 points.
