Prairie Central outlasts Lexington

LEXINGTON — Prairie Central continued one streak and brought to an end another as the Hawks outlasted host Lexington in a nonconference volleyball match Tuesday at The Fort.

Prairie Central improved to 7-3 with a 25-20, 21-25, 25-23 decision over the previously unbeaten Minutemen. Lexington dropped to 3-1 in the early going.

“Lexington had some tough and solid hits and serves on us but the girls kept pushing for each point and was able to pull ahead when we needed,” PC head coach Kirsten Smith said. “(The) girls played really scrappy when they needed to and then reset for control.”

Kerigan Fehr had a big night at the net with 15 kills to lead the Prairie Central offense. Gracie Edelman had 19 assists. Gyllian Davies had a big night all around with 9 service points on offense to go with 2 blocks and 31 digs on defense.

Makayla Ziegler led Lexington with 9 kills and Avery Poppe chalked up 7. Emma Bennett garnered 21 assists. Poppe also served up 12 points. Bennett and Poppe each had 21 digs and Claire Peacock came up with 18 on defense. Bennett and Ziegler shared a block.

“I am real happy with some of the plays and different set-ups the girls are trying,” Smith said. “I believe that they are pushing and challenging themselves to push to the next level.”

Lexington claimed the sophomore match 25-13, 25-19 while Prairie Central took the freshman match 27-24.

Flanagan-Cornell-Roanoke-Benson

Kortney Harms and Grace Zimmerman combined for 21 kills in leading Flanagan-Cornell to a 27-25, 25-16 nonconference victory over Roanoke-Benson Tuesday.

Harms checked in with 13 kills and Zimmerman knocked down 8 kills as the Falcons moved to 3-2. Harms and Reagan Montello had 7 assists apiece. Kalynne Kindermann had 11 digs on defense and Zimmerman came up with 10.

Roanoke-Benson rallied to top Flanagan-Cornell 18-25, 25-18, 25-17 in the junior varsity match.
