Prairie Central wins four straight

HERSCHER — Prairie Central made it four wins a row with a 25-21, 25-20 nonconference decision over host Herscher Monday night.

The Hawks, who won their final three matches Saturday, made it four in a row behind the all-around court play of Kerigan Fehr. Fehr collected 13 kills and 6 service points (four aces) on offense and came up with 10 digs on defense.

Bella Mekarski led the service attack with 11 points (three aces) and Gracie Edelman had 10 assists.

“The match was hot ad hard fought,” said PC head coach Kirsten Smith. “The girls tried some different set-ups that I was very proud of and did not get down when losing some points.”

The sophomores lost in three sets — 22-25, 25-19, 25-16 — and the freshmen won in three sets — 8-25, 26-24, 15-12.

Pontiac-Streator

STREATOR — Pontiac had more hitting errors than kills in dropping a 25-16, 25-21 nonconference volleyball decision to host Streator Monday.

The Indians (2-5) collected 13 kills off 68 attacks and made 18 errors in the process. Bailey Masching and Cadence Helms each had 3 kills to lead the PTHS net attack. Tessa Poplett and Alix Robinson each had 2 kills. Keara Smith chalked up 12 assists.

Pontiac took the freshman match 25-11, 25-22 and the sophomores prevailed 21-25, 25-19, 15-9.

Flanagan-Cornell-Henry

Flanagan-Cornell improved to 2-2 on the season with a 25-17, 25-20 nonconference win over Henry-Senachwine Monday.

Kortney Harms had 6 kills and Grace Zimmerman delivefed 4 kills for the Falcons. Zimmerman also served up 9 aces. Reagan Montello made 6 assists and Harms had 4 assists.

Flanagan-Cornell topped th Mallards 14-25, 25-22, 25-23 in the junior varsity match.

Lexington-GSW

Lexington remained unbeaten with a 25-13, 25-22 nonconference win over Gardner-South Wilmington Monday. The Minutemen improved to 3-0.

Avery Poppe led the Lexington net attack with 9 kills and Makayla Ziegler delivered 4. Emma Bennett had 11 assists to go with her trio of ace serves on offense and her 13 defensive digs. Claire Peacock collected 4 assists, 9 points, including three aces, and 10 digs on defense. Vivian Wright was the leading server with 11 points (three aces).

Livingston County Invite

Prairie Central went 3-2 and Pontiac finished 2-3 at the Livingston County Invitational volleyball tournament over the weekend.

The Hawks got off to a slow start by dropping their first two matches, each in three sets. PC opened with a 25-18, 18-25, 15-12 loss to El Paso-Gridley. Kerigan Fehr had 9 service points and 7 kills, Gracie Edelman collected 5 points and 5 assists and Bella Mekarski had 5 kills.

Woodland rallied to tip PC 23-25, 25-20, 15-13. Fehr had a double double with 12 points and 11 kills. Edelman chalked up 13 assists.

Gyllian Davies was the top server as Prairie Central dumped Tri-Point 25-21, 25-13. Davies had 12 points. Fehr delivered 5 kills and Alexandria Hari had 4 assists. Davies also had a block and 16 digs on defense.

The Hawks made it two in a row with a 25-12, 25-18 win over Dwight behind 3 Fehr kills. Mekarski served up 10 points and Edelman had 4 assists.

Prairie Central bumped off Pontiac 25-15, 25-18 to finish tourney play with a winning record. Edelman had 10 points and 7 assists. Hari also had 7 assists and Fehr collected 8 kills.

Bailey Masching had 6 kills and Smith made 11 assists for the Indians.

Fehr finished with 34 kills on the day while Mekarski chalked up 16 and Davies had 10. Edelman had 32 assists and Hari made 23.

Pontiac did the opposite of Prairie Central as the Indians won their first two matches and then lost three straight. The Tribe handled Tri-Point 25-11, 25-18 in the opener as Bailey Masching and Cadence Helms each had 4 kills. Alix Robinson and Tessa Poplett had 3 kills apiece. Masching had 6 aces.

Next up was a 25-12, 25-6 drubbing of Dwight, where Masching had 5 kills and Poplett served up 9 aces. Makayla Metz had 5 aces.

Woodland stopped Pontiac's run with a 25-18, 18-25, 15-4 win. Masching had 5 kills and Poplett delivered 4 while Keara Smith had 12 assists.

Pontiac's slide continued with a 25-21, 25-15 loss to El Paso-Gridley. Robinson had 5 kills for the Tribe and Smith had 8 assists.

The loss to Prairie Central ended Pontiac's day.

Flanagan-Cornell-CCA

Kortney Harms had a big day at the net Saturday as she paced Flanagan-Cornell to a 25-21, 25-12 victory over Cornerstone Christian Academy.

Harms had 12 kills as the Falcons won their first match of the season. Grace Zimmerman had 2 kills and Reagan Montello scored 10 assists.
