'Pray for snow!': Showdown pushes opening day to Dec. 17

Showdown Montana, the local ski hill in Neihart, announced earlier this week it would delay its opening day to Friday, Dec. 17, citing a lack of snow.

"The upper part of the mountain is starting to look pretty good, but coverage is thin in critical areas and near the bottom of the mountain," reads a statement from the ski hill. "... please continue to pray for snow!"

Showdown will hold its annual Canned Food Drive, which supports the Great Falls Food Bank, on Saturday, Dec. 18, where 15 cans of food plus $15 buys you one lift ticket.

Showdown Show Up cards, which include three lift tickets for $125, are on sale until Dec. 16.

Showdown also delayed opening day last year, citing thin snow coverage on critical parts of the mountain.

Bridger Bowl, located in Bozeman, also announced this week it would push its opening back to Dec. 17, citing "Old Man Winter's non-compliance."
