Prayer service for victims of gun violence to take place in Beaver on Sept. 12

BEAVER ― A group of local families and community members affected by gun violence will gather for a public prayer service next week.

Christians United will host the "Memorial to the Lost Prayer Service" outside the Holy Trinity Luthern Church at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The event will be a part of the "Memorial to Those Lost to Gun Violence in Western PA," which brings awareness to the 59 individuals who have been victims of gun violence this year.

At the event, visitors can visit a display of T-shirts that feature the names, ages and days that these victims died from gun violence. The display will remain outside the church after the service and is anticipated to stay in the area for around two weeks.

A student from Duquesne University, Jayla Hemphill, will also briefly speak about her personal experience with gun violence during the service.
