Prayer vigil held as community seeks answers about Jaylen Griffin’s killer

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The family of Jaylen Griffin, whose body was found last month after being missing for nearly four years, is standing with community leaders to find answers about his killer.

Local groups stood with Griffin’s father Thursday at the house on Sheffield Avenue in South Buffalo, where the 12-year-old’s body was found.

Griffin was last seen in August 2020, after leaving a corner store near his home on Warren Avenue. He was reported missing two days later.

“That’s why we’re here to pray for justice, pray that whoever did this be convicted,” Pastor Tim Newkirk said. “Let the community know that as fathers and as men, that we’re upset with what happened, and we’re not going to stand by and do nothing about it.”

Group leaders with GYC Ministries say they do not want the house to be demolished yet, they want it to serve as a reminder to the community to speak up.

Crimestoppers WNY is offering a $7,500 reward for anyone who has information on Griffin’s killer.
