Pre-Cut Fruit Recalled in Four States After 30+ People Were Infected With Salmonella
Tailor Cut Produce, a New Jersey company, is recalling pre-cut fruit products that may be infected with salmonella.
The products—which include Fruit Luau fruit mix, cut honeydew, cut cantaloupe and cut pineapple—were distributed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. The fruit mixes have been linked to 33 confirmed cases of salmonella.
The Fruit Luau fruit mix (which contains pre-cut cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple, and grapes) was a common food eaten by many patients, according to a release from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
The affected products, which come in 2 and 1-gallon cases and feature a date of production stamped on the packaging, were distributed between November 15 and December 1, 2019.
Symptoms of salmonella in healthy people are fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Young children, frail or elderly people, or people with otherwise weakened immune systems are most at risk.
“In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis,” according to the FDA.
