Pre-Sliced Avocado Is Here & It’s Seriously Dividing Opinion

Dear old Marks and Spencer have started selling pre-sliced avocado and it’s seriously dividing opinion.

The good old avocado comes in a handy skin of it’s own making it conveniently portable - natures lunchbox you might say. Slice in half, ditch the stone, whack some dressing in the middle, scoop with a spoon, shovel into mouth. Repeat.

Can’t be bothered with that? You’re in luck. The bright sparks down at M&S have made life a little easier by selling slices of the stuff in 80 gram pots for £1.50. It even has a few bits of parsley on it. Pretty.

Reactions have been mixed. Twitter user Mark Ari said it was a waste of plastic and likened it to the “stupid” pre-sliced oranges sold by Whole Foods.

Alex Klien tweeted: “cutting/de stoning/scooping can all be a struggle for folks with disabilities.” This was seconded by Gee Lampa who said: “Arthritic people and the elderly can often have a terrible time negotiating the skin & pit.”

The avocado is packaged in a protective atmosphere to keep it from turning brown.

Erica Molyneaux, Product Developer for M&S said: ‘Customers love an avocado – but they’re sometimes not the easiest to prepare, so we’ve done the messy bit for them and created a ready sliced, fully ripened option, perfect for adding to sandwiches, salads or as a simple healthy snack.’
