Each week during the high school football season, I'm inviting a guest to join me in predicting the winner of each West Sound game, as well as the Seahawks, UW and WSU.

For Week 9, our guest picker is the Kitsap Sun's public safety reporter, Andrew Binion.

In Week 8, Kitsap Sun news editor Kimberly Rubenstein and I both finished 7-2. We both missed Port Angeles beating Kingston 28-7. Rubenstein missed East Jefferson holding off Klahowya 18-13, while I continued my season-long habit of incorrectly predicting if the Seahawks are going to win or not. They beat the Chargers handily, 37-23.

For the season, I'm 58-17 in the picks department, while guests are a combined 55-20. Here's a look at what's coming up this week (UW is off until Nov. 4).

Thursday

Foss (1-5) at Kingston (2-5), 6:30 p.m.: The Buccaneers have an extra non-league game this season after the school made the decision over the summer to not play 3A Bainbridge, the lone 3A team in the Olympic League, due to safety concerns. Valid argument or not (Bainbridge is 3-5 this season), Kingston will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak against the visiting Falcons. Jeff: Kingston; Andrew: Kingston

Utah (5-2) at Washington State (3-4), 7 p.m.: The Cougars return from their bye to face the 14th-ranked Utes. WSU has lost two consecutive road games, while Utah just upset USC. Jeff: Utah; Andrew: Utah

Friday

North Kitsap (7-1, 6-0 in Olympic League 2A) at Olympic (7-1, 6-0), 6:30 p.m.: Both teams are headed to the Class 2A West Central District playoffs, as the've secured the top two places in the Olympic League. All that's left to determine is if the Vikings or Trojans will be No. 1. Olympic beat North Kitsap to win the league crown in 2015, but the Vikings have dominated the league for most of the past decade, winning titles in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2021. Jeff: North Kitsap; Andrew: North Kitsap

ICYMI: Olympic, North Kitsap title showdown set

Meadowdale (1-7) at Bainbridge (3-5), 6:30 p.m.: Bainbridge still has an opportunity to finish with a .500 record if the Spartans knock off Meadowdale and pick up another victory in Week 10 (assuming they can figure out an opponent). Jeff: Bainbridge; Andrew: Meadowdale

Port Angeles (2-6, 1-5 in Olympic League 2A) at North Mason (1-7, 1-5), 7 p.m.: North Mason had a decent showing against Olympic on the road in Week 8, keeping the game close for a half. Depth issues, however, continue to be a concern for the Bulldogs, who only suited up 28 players last week. Jeff: Port Angeles; Andrew: Port Angeles

Bremerton (6-2, 4-2 in Olympic League 2A) at Sequim (2-6, 2-4), 7 p.m.: Clinching the Olympic League's third and final playoff spot with last week's win against Bainbridge, Bremerton can use this contest as a tune-up for Week 10's playoff game, which will also be on the road against a yet-to-be determined opponent. Running back Jayden Quenga has 789 rushing yards through eight games, so he could be looking at a 1,000-yard season soon. Jeff: Bremerton: Andrew: Bremerton

South Kitsap (1-7, 1-7 in South Puget Sound League 4A) at Sumner (7-1, 7-1), 7 p.m.: Sitting one win ahead of Graham-Kapowsin, Puyallup and Emerald Ridge in the league standings, Sumner is in position to claim the SPSL title with a win over the Wolves, who've lost six straight games. Jeff: Sumner; Andrew: Sumner

Central Kitsap (0-8, 0-6 in South Sound Conference 3A) at North Thurston (1-7, 0-6), 7 p.m.: Central Kitsap hasn't finished the season with a winless record since 1979, back when Bruce Welling served as head coach. The Cougars should be heavily motivated to pick up a victory this week against a team it beat 61-7 last season and has a 7-0 record against since 2014. Jeff: Central Kitsap; Andrew: North Thurston

Sunday

New York Giants (6-1) at Seattle Seahawks (4-3), 1:25 p.m.: You guys remember that Geno Smith played for the Giants for one season, right? Another thing you may not know: I'm a life-long Giants fan. Jeff: Giants; Andrew: Seahawks
