Prediction time: Who will be the winners in Week 6 of Kitsap County prep, college football?

Jeff Graham

Each week during the high school football season I'm inviting a guest to join me in predicting the winner of each West Sound game, as well as the Seahawks, UW and WSU.

For Week 6, our guest picker is two-time Kitsap Sun football player of the year Colton Bower, a freshman at Washington State University who is preparing to play baseball for the Cougars.

In Week 5, I went 8-2, while Kitsap Sun reporter Nathan Pilling finished 7-3. We both missed on the Huskies, who fell to UCLA in the team's first road game of the year. We also missed on the Seahawks, who won a shootout in Detroit.

For the season, I'm 38-9 in the picks department, while guests are a combined 33-14. With Klahowya on a bye week in Nisqually League 1A play, here's a look at what's coming up this week.

WEEK 5

Friday

North Mason (0-5, 0-3 in Olympic League 2A) at Bainbridge (1-4, 1-2), 6:30 p.m.: The Bulldogs and Spartans both played North Kitsap within the past two weeks. North Mason lost 67-0 and Bainbridge lost 58-0. The Spartans' other three losses this season were by five points or less, while the Bulldogs' closest game this season was a 15-point loss to Kingston. Jeff: Bainbridge; Colton: Bainbridge

Olympic (4-1, 3-0 in Olympic League 2A) at Sequim (2-3, 2-1), 6:30 p.m.: The Trojans are tied for first in league play with North Kitsap, so if they want a chance to go for a title at home against the Vikings in Week 9, they can't afford any slip-ups along the way. Sequim has beaten Port Angeles and Kingston after opening the season 0-3. Jeff: Olympic; Colton: Olympic

Bremerton (4-1, 2-1 in Olympic League 2A) at Port Angeles (1-4, 0-3), 6:30 p.m.: The run-happy Knights threw for two touchdowns in last week's win over North Mason, so let's see if they continue to make progress in the passing game against the Roughriders, who played tough run defense against Olympic in Week 5 despite a lopsided loss. Jeff: Bremerton; Colton: Bremerton

North Kitsap's Jorden Reece (9) pursues Bainbridge quarterback Jack Grant during the first half of their game in Poulsbo on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022.

North Kitsap (4-1, 3-0 in Olympic League 2A) at Kingston (2-3, 1-2) at NK Stadium, 6:30 p.m.: Kingston won three straight Pillage and Plunder Bowls from 2010-12, but North Kitsap has won eight consecutive games since, outscoring Kingston 364-82 in those matchups. The Vikings and Buccaneers are simply in different stratospheres nowadays despite being 2A programs in the same school district. Jeff: North Kitsap; Colton: North Kitsap

Peninsula (4-1, 3-0 in South Sound Conference 3A) at Central Kitsap (0-5, 0-3), 7 p.m.: Central Kitsap should have a realistic chance over the final month of the regular season to pick up a victory or two. This one might be out of reach considering Peninsula is in contention for a league title. Jeff: Peninsula; Colton: Peninsula

South Kitsap (1-4, 1-4 in South Puget Sound League) at Bellarmine Prep (1-4, 1-4): 7 p.m.: On paper, this should be the most competitive game on this week's local high school slate. The Wolves, who play three of their final four league games on the road, are coming off a 40-12 loss to Emerald Ridge. Jeff: South Kitsap; Colton: Bellarmine Prep

Saturday

Washington (4-1) at Arizona State (1-4), 1 p.m.: Seems like a perfect opportunity for a bounce-back game for the Huskies. Jeff: UW; Colton: UW

Washington State (4-1) at USC (5-0), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans are ranked No. 6 in the country. Any chance the Cougars pull off an upset? Jeff: USC; Colton: USC

Sunday

Seattle (2-2) at New Orleans (1-3), 10 a.m.: Every team in the NFC West has a 2-2 record, so the Seahawks are right in the thick of things. Jeff: Seattle; Colton: Seattle
