Prefab Housing Set Up in Lviv, Western Ukraine, for Displaced Civilians

A prefabricated “container town” for displaced civilians was set up in Lviv, western Ukraine, in order to cope with a massive influx of people fleeing war in the south and east of the country, footage showed on Monday, April 11.

This footage, captured by Current Time, shows the prefabricated housing units in Lviv, considered the largest city in western Ukraine, on April 7.

In the footage, Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovy said he estimated roughly 50,000 civilians would stay in the city long-term, and the construction of the necessary housing would be expensive but hoped to work with European institutions for funding, according to a translation provided by Current Time.

Architect Anton Kolomeitsev said that a basic prefab unit was fitted with beds and tables and able to “comfortably house up to four people,” according to the translation provided by Current Time. Credit: Current Time/RFE/RL via Storyful
