She says she moved in The Park at Galaway Apartments off Washington Road in East Point last August.

“It’s stressful. I have two kids. I have two small kids, living with a hole in my roof,” she said pointing at the damage.

Richmond says the problems started when the ceiling in the bathroom started leaking. She said the kitchen ceiling has since begun to crumble as the water keeps leaking.

“Water came all through here,” she said, pointing to her cabinets and the stove. “Any food I had, it’s gone.”

Jones went by the leasing office to find out what is going on. A manager said maintenance was working on the issue.

Richmond says it floods outside her apartment when it rains, and she says she’s had mold and sewage backups. She says she just wants the problems resolved so she can live in peace and that nobody should have to live like that.

Richmond says the apartments won’t move her to another unit, because she refuses to pay the rent while living in what she calls unsafe and unhealthy conditions.

Jones referred her to the Georgia Consumer Affairs Bureau, so they can advise her what her rights are regarding not paying rent when major repairs aren’t made in a timely manner.
