Friends say Hussaini was trying to find a means of transportation to get to a hospital where her oldest daughter was being treated.

Hussaini and her unborn child did not survive the crash.

Gwinnett County police say Hussaini and her son were getting out of an Uber parked on the south shoulder of Hewatt Rd. They began crossing the street outside of a crosswalk and crossed into the path of a car driving down Hewatt Rd.

The driver involved in the crash stayed on the scene.

Her husband was working in Texas at the time of the crash because Georgia driver’s licenses are not currently available in their language of Dari, a Persian dialect spoken in Afghanistan. He has since returned to Georgia.

Police say they are still working to determine if speed played a factor in the crash, but have determined that intoxication was not. Their investigation is ongoing.

A Gofundme account has been set up for the Hussaini family. The community has already collected more than $24,000 for the family.
