Baby delivered safely after deadly I-390 crash dies

A third person - an infant - has died in the fatal crash over the weekend in Wayland, Steuben County, New York State Police announced late Monday morning.

Earlier on Monday, troopers identified the two people who died on Saturday as a result of the crash as Margarita Ramirez-Luna, 40, and Alex Andrade,12, both Pennsylvania residents. Andrade died at the scene.

The baby was the child of Ramirez-Luna, who was pregnant and was taken to Nicholas Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, where she died from her injuries. Her baby was successfully delivered and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, but later died there, according to State Police.

The other 10 people injured in the crash were taken to various hospitals for treatment. They ranged in age from a 1-year-old boy to a 49-year-old woman. Four of the injured were children, troopers said.

The crash occurred around 9:20 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-390, just north of Exit 3, according to New York State Police. Troopers said three families were traveling in a van from Norristown, Pennsylvania to Niagara Falls for a vacation. Troopers said that all of the people in the van were from the Philadelphia area.

While headed north, an issue with the rear passenger tire caused the driver, Adrian Andrade-Dolores, 41, to lose control. The van veered onto the west shoulder of the highway, then onto a median before the van overturned.

Wayland is about an hour south of Rochester.

Troopers continue to investigate the crash.
