Pregnant woman wounded in Northeast Anchorage shooting has died

Feb. 6—Anchorage police said Tuesday that a shooting Sunday night in Northeast Anchorage that led to the deaths of a pregnant woman and her unborn child is now being investigated as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 200 block of North Park Street around 10:30 p.m. and found a woman with a gunshot wound, police said early Monday morning. She was brought to the hospital and a suspect was detained, they said.

In an update Tuesday, police said the woman arrived at the hospital with life-threatening injuries and "because of her injuries, she lost her pregnancy." The woman later died from her injuries, the update said.

Police said no charges had been filed as of Tuesday. It was not immediately clear what may have motivated the shooting but it was not believed to be random, they said.
