Premal Patel begins run for Luna County Commissioner, district 2

DEMING – Local businessman Premal Patel is making his bid for Luna County Commissioner, District 2 on a Republican ticket during the June 7 Primary Election in Deming and Luna County. Patel, 47, is a 1993 graduate of Deming High School and the owner and operator of Sunrise RV Park and the Happy Camper Clubhouse.

“Family and friends gave me the idea into running for county commissioner,” Patel, 47, told the Headlight. “They told me I should share my ideas and innovations as a business owner that might help grow economic development and build infrastructure in the county.”

Patel earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science from the Agriculture Dept. at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces in 1998. He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in Albuquerque.

Patel knows the inner workings of both city and county government. He spent five years as a planner for City of Deming Government and moved into Director of Planning for Luna County for three years.

“I understand both sides of the desk,” Patel said. “I know I can connect the dots with my experience between city and county government. As a county commissioner, I will listen to both sides. When it comes to managing land use, water, and infrastructure, I can make these top priorities for the county.”

Patel operated a fitness center in Albuquerque prior to moving back to Deming with his family. He longed to return home and build a successful business in the community.

“We need something different with this administration,” Patel said. “Whether I agree or not with the direction the county may take us, I worry about the decisions I make and if I am doing good for the community.

“I can see the makings of something different in the county and I want to be a part of that change.”

Voting for the June 7, 2022 Primary Election will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Luna County at three convenience centers located at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center, 2400 E. Pine St., the Holy Family Catholic Church Parish Hall, 615 S. Copper St. and at the Columbus Public Library in Columbus, NM, 112 W. Broadway.
