Prep Baseball: Jefferson wins own tourney; Miller hot for Monroe

Jefferson and Lincoln Park both finished 2-1 in Saturday’s Jefferson Invitational, but the title went to the home team on the basis of a run-differential tiebreaker.

“This is a big morale boost,” Jefferson coach Tyler Bondy said. “It was great. The guys believed in each other and really came together. It was a big day for us. The kids are super excited.”

The day didn’t start well for the Bears with an 8-5 loss to Melvindale, but they bounced back to beat Gibraltar Carlson 7-1 and Lincoln Park 3-0.

The win over Carlson was especially sweet because Matt Kolak, Jefferson’s coach last year, now leads the Marauders.

Alec Albain tripled, Ryan Gennoe had an RBI single and Drew Huffman stole three bases to lead the offense in that game. Gavin Gelso tossed a two-hitter.

Lukas Ledingham scattered four hits in throwing a shutout against Lincoln Park. Gelso, Huffman and Jase Johns had two hits each for the 7-6 Bears.
