Prep Baseball Report's top Ohio players include top honors for Mason, CHCA athletes

While Ohio's baseball coaches released their all-state teams in early June, Prep Baseball Report recently released its version of the best players in Divisions I-IV.

As summer baseball winds down and the football news cranks up, here's a look at PBR's top players of the past high school season from the Southwest Ohio/Cincinnati area:

Division I

Player of the Year/Pitcher of the Year

Brenden Garula, senior, Mason – The University of Cincinnati recruit  pitched 67 innings going 9-1 with a 1.14 ERA and 99 strikeouts. At the plate, he hit .365 and belted three home runs.

In addition to Garula, several other area players were selected first team.

First Team

Nathan Earley, senior, first base, Moeller – The Ohio State recruit hit .385 with three homers and 20 RBI.

Devin Taylor, senior, outfield, La Salle – Taylor hit .364 with five homers and 20 RBI. He is heading to Indiana.

Max Tramontana, senior, pitcher, Moeller – The right-hander was 8-0 in 57 innings with 85 strikeouts and a 0.86 ERA.

Noah Samol, senior, pitcher, Mason – The left-hander was 6-1 in 40 innings with 78 strikeouts and a 1.46 ERA. Samol will pitch for Georgia Tech.

Michael Murphy, junior, pitcher, Mason – Murphy was 5-1 in 43.2 innings for the Comets with 62 strikeouts and one save. His ERA was 0.81. Murphy recently committed to play at Michigan.

Andrew Edrington, junior, pitcher/infielder, Princeton – The Clemson commit hit .461. On the mound he had a 2.33 ERA and struck out 75 in 45 innings.

Second Team

Elder's Luke Vaughn (34) was GCL-South Player of the Year in 2022. He is a UCF commit.

Luke Vaughn, junior, catcher, Elder – Vaughn is a Central Florida commit who hit .360 with a home run and 34 RBI for the Panthers.

Josiah Nelson, senior, outfield, Middletown – Nelson hit .471 for the Middies driving in 20 runs and stealing 20 bases.

Colton Hartman, junior, pitcher, Lebanon – The lefty Louisville commit was 4-3 in 61 innings for the Warriors with a 1.60 ERA and 114 strikeouts.

Toby Hueber, junior, pitcher/infield, Moeller – Hueber was 9-1 with a 1.83 ERA in 53.1 innings. He hit .314 with a home run, 19 RBI while stealing 22 bases. Hueber is a George Mason commit.

Division II

First Team

Jimmy Nugent, senior, catcher, Badin – The Penn State recruit hit .403 with three homers and 35 RBI.

Brayden Fraasman, senior, catcher, Ross – Fraasman hit .453 with five homers and 19 RBI and will play at Lincoln Trail.

Eric Rawlings, senior, pitcher, Badin – Rawlings was 10-0 with a 0.51 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 54 innings. He will also play at Lincoln Trail.

Jared Teke, senior, pitcher, Batavia – Teke was 5-1 with an 0.56 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 57 innings. He will play at Northern Kentucky University.

Second Team

Landyn Vidourek, senior, shortstop, Badin – Vidourek hit .389 driving in 23 runs and stealing 18 bases. Vidourek will be a Cincinnati Bearcat.

Reagan Burch, senior, outfield, Blanchester – Burch hit .477 with a home run, 22 RBI and 23 stolen bases.

Lleyton Flamm, senior, pitcher/infield, New Richmond – Flamm was 5-2 pitching with a 1.44 ERA and hit .325 for the Lions.

Honorable Mention

Ross – Ben Voegele, freshman, infielder; Taylor – Mark Snowden, senior, outfield; Indian Hill – Nick Rinala, sophomore, pitcher; New Richmond – Danny Shockley, senior, pitcher/infield; Blanchester – Sammy Roush, freshman, pitcher/infield.

Division III

Player of the Year

Jack Vogele, senior, outfield, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy – The UC signee hit .598 with six homers, 29 RBI and 15 stolen bases. Three other locals also made first team.

First Team

Cooper Robinson, senior, pitcher/utility, CHCA – The Butler signee was 7-0 with an 0.81 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. He hit .397 and drove in 18 runs for the Eagles.

Carter Sunderman, junior, infield, Williamsburg – Sunderman hit .462 with two homers and 28 RBI.

Quinn Benner, senior, outfield, Mariemont – Benner hit .418 with three homers, 27 RBI and 15 stolen bases.

Second Team

Mason Perkins, senior, infield, Summit Country Day – Perkins hit .457 with four homers, 19 RBI and 24 stolen bases.

Caden Crawford, senior, first base, CHCA – The Evansville signee hit .379 with a home run and 21 RBI.

Johnathan Russell, junior, outfield, CHCA – Russell hit .487 with two homers, 33 RBI and 26 stolen bases.

Colin Ames, senior, pitcher/infield, CHCA – Ames had a 1.01 ERA for the Eagles with 59 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. He also hit .345.

Davis Campbell, sophomore, infield, Cincinnati Country Day – Campbell hit .410 with two home runs and 19 RBI.

Deer Park – Jayce Parson, sophomore, catcher; Mariemont – Max Miller, senior, infield; Batavia – Max Stewart, senior, infield, Wes Embry, sophomore, pitcher/infield; Williamsburg – Austin Heffner, junior, infield, Eli Jones, junior, outfield; Purcell Marian – Ethan Ill, junior, infield; McNicholas – Ben Bobo, junior, outfield, Tyler Snyder, junior, outfield; Summit Country Day – Erik Deal, junior, outfield; Roger Bacon – Jake Tschida, senior pitcher.

Division IV

First Team

Titan Selvie, senior, infield, Cincinnati Christian – Selvie hit .506 and stole 26 bases.

Jacob Hessler, senior, infield, Miami Valley Christian Academy – Hessler hit .486 driving 23 runs and stealing 16 bases.

Garrett Taulbee, senior, pitcher/infield, Felicity-Franklin –The Marietta College recruit was 6-1 with an 0.32 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 43.2 innings. He hit .468 with two homers and 18 RBI.

Second Team

Ethan Hyrne, sophomore, infield, MVCA – Hyrne hit .433 with a home run and 29 RBI.

Honorable Mention

New Miami – Andrew Rapier, senior, infield, Robert Jones, senior, pitcher/utility; Felicity-Franklin – Cameron Helton, senior, infield; Seven Hills – Will Schneider, senior, catcher.
