Prep Baseball: Roberts helps Monroe keep league title hopes alive

DEXTER – Monroe needed a big game from Kellen Roberts.

The Trojans had their backs against the wall in the Southeastern Conference race after losing the first game of a doubleheader 12-11 against Dexter Monday.

That dropped them three games behind the pacesetting Dreadnaughts in the Southeastern Conference Red race.

Roberts came through in a big way, tossing a five-inning two-hitter with nine strikeouts as Monroe won 11-1.

Noah Miller went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the offense while Tristin Panza and Breylon Richards each drove in two runs.

Miller also was the hitting star in the opener with a pair of hits and five RBI. Roberts had two hits and three RBI and Panza drove in two runs

Monroe is 16-6 overall and 10-5 in the league. Dexter visits Monroe for a single game Wednesday.

Dessellier leads Milan

MILAN – Connor Dessellier was on top of his game for Milan Monday.

The junior tossed a three-hit shutout, striking out 15 in a 7-0 win over Jefferson.

Jett Isaacs and Cody Wikaryasz both had two RBI and Billy Gaskill had two hits for Milan.

Gavin Congioloso had two hits for Jefferson.

Huron wins in eighth

NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron managed only one run Monday, but that was enough for a 1-0 win in eight innings over Grosse Ile.

Gavin Moczydlowsky and Micah Smith combined for a three-hit, shutout backed by great defense.

Smith started the winning rally in the eighth with a single, then Isaac Smith, Matt Williams and Cole Grunwald drew walks.

Jet pitchers sharp

CARLETON – Dominic Jones and Jack Mills teamed up for a shutout as Airport blanked Flat Rock 9-0 Monday.

Airport started fast with six runs in the first inning. Shade Daniels, Nolan Zajac, Brayden Moore, Jones, and Colin Nowak all drove in runs in that inning.

Mules bounce back

TEMPERANCE – Tommy Huss banged out three hits and Ethan Brickner and Aidan Reed added two each as Bedford beat Saline 10-3 in the second game of a doubleheader Monday.

Saline broke a 5-5 tie with eight runs in the sixth inning to win the opener 14-7. Brickner, Reed and Brady Pridgeon had two hits each for Bedford.

Bedford's junior varsity (14-6) also split, taking the opener and dropping the second game, both by 5-4 scores. Isaac Garrow pitched well and Gabe Bock and Luke Davis each stroked a pair of doubles in the first game. Garrow and Max Max Degroff had two hits each in the second game to support the pitching of Aiden Schoch.

SMCC pounded

Ethan Barno, Josh Theisen, and Andrew Pope collected two hits each, but it was not enough for St. Mary Catholic Central in an 11-5 loss to Riverview Monday.

Tough loss for Carlson

GIBRALTAR – John Hojnowski and Brady Robertson pitched well, but Gibraltar Carlson lost a 3-2 heartbreaker in ei innings Monday.

Ryan Hays, Blake Gant, Liam Ferguson, Hojnowski, Zach Buch, Nico Reach and McCullan Greene had hits for the 5-23 Marauders.
