PETERSBURG – Summerfield's baseball has not won a game this season.

But the Bulldogs keep fighting.

They lost a 3-2 heartbreaker in the first game of a doubleheader against Morenci Wednesday, then fell behind 6-0 in the nightcap.

Summerfield fought back to tie the game 6-6 before the umpires halted play because of darkness. It will go down as a tie.

“It definitely says we don’t give up,” first-year Summerfield coach Reid Olmstead said. “The guys keep fighting to the end of every game.

“When we got down 6-0, we could have called it quits, but they chipped away and ended up tying the game at the end. It’s been that way all season.”

Summerfield had the bottom of the batting order coming up in the seventh inning, but No. 8 hitter Ty LaRocca drew a walk and No. 9 hitter James Goebbel singled.

Then Logan Keane tripled both of them home and scored the tying run on a single by Keegan Sieler.

Summerfield wasted a gem by Jake Wadsworth in the first game. The sophomore gave up four hits with 11 strikeouts and just one walk. Josh Whaley had two hits in that game for the 0-9-2 Bulldogs.

Monroe 6, Ann Arbor Huron 2

Tristin Panza pitched into the seventh inning to earn the win and helped his own cause with two hits.

Ashton Elmer homered as the Trojans improved to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the Southeastern Conference Red.

Bedford 13, Ypsilanti Lincoln 4

WILLIS – Lead-off hitter Connor Laskey went 3-for-4 and scored three times and clean-up man Noah Weiher was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs.

Nolan Laskey earned the win for the Mules (12-5 overall, 9-3 in Southeastern Conference) with relief help from Brady Pridgeon.

Milan 2, Flat Rock 0

MILAN – Jett Isaacs tossed a no hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.

He won a pitchers’ duel with Michael Giroux of Flat Rock, who gave up four hits and just one earned run. Catcher Nick Car picked off two Milan baserunners.

Whiteford 5-5, Sand Creek 1-2

OTTAWA LAKE – Whiteford ran its record to 6-0 in the Tri-County Conference and 12-3 overall as Shea Ruddy delivered two hits in each game.

Cole Geisige struck out 12 in the first game and Isaiah Joerin had two hits. Cole Crouch was the winning pitcher in relief in the second game.

Grosse Ile 1, Airport 0

CARLETON – Singles by Nolan Zajac, Jason Himebauch and Colin Nowak were the only hits for Airport in an eight-inning game.

Himebauch took the tough-luck loss. He went the distance, scattering six hits. The Jets (10-6 overall, 4-4 Huron League) played errorless defense behind him.

"Both pitchers pitched very well,” Airport coach John VanWasshenova said. “Both teams played very well. It was a good game. We just came up a bit short.”

Ida 12-4, Manchester 6-6

MANCHESTER – Tyler Robertson went 3-for-4 with a double, scored three times and had two RBI in Ida’s win.

Carter Diedrich, Dean Thomas and Jaeden Gianino added two hits each in that game and Cam Riegel drove in three runs.

Robertson, AJ Schrader and Riegel each had a pair of hits in the Manchester victory.
