Sheldon sophomore Emerson Kearney is seeded seventh in the girls singles tournament after winning a Southwest Conference district title last weekend. The Irish also qualified the doubles team of Ella Ritchie and Maddie Wingert.

South Eugene’s doubles team of Coco and Mia Majors will be seeded sixth at state following their district championship. South sophomore Kim Le also qualified for the singles tournament.

On the boys side, Sheldon’s Brooks Lerfald qualified after winning a district singles title and South Eugene freshman Blake Chandler will also play at state. The Axe qualified two doubles teams, with the tandem of Ryman and Jalen Wang winning a district title and the duo of Brandon Gill and Kaellan Lee finishing fourth. Sheldon’s team of Cash Daughters and Aiden Chance will also compete at state.

5A tournament: Churchill will send a number of players to the 5A tournament, which will be held at the Portland Tennis Center. Carsen Luna, Luke Villano and Aaron Rezaee finished 1-2-3 at the Midwestern League district tournament last week, and the Lancers also qualified the doubles teams of Bennett Krupka and Iaden Gains, plus Sho-Un Tanaka and Jacob Montoya. Willamette’s Jorien Flores qualified in singles and Thurston’s doubles squad of James Lovdokken and Jensen Taylor also qualified.

On the girls side, Churchill qualified Kazuki Tanaka and McKenzie Larsen in singles play and the duo of Sophia Donovan and Elise Gray in doubles. Nolan Crist was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI, Rylan Koozer was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, and Drew White drove in two runs. SOFTBALL

Sheldon 8, Marist 1: In a nonleague showdown between two of the area’s best softball teams, Sheldon romped past Marist as the two squads tune up for the state playoffs. Sheldon (22-5) is ranked No. 8 in the Class 6A coaches poll and Marist (22-2) is ranked No. 1 in the 4A poll, but the Irish had the upper hand in Tuesday’s game, scoring three runs in the first inning and leaning on a strong pitching performance from sophomore Payton Burnham, who struck out 14 batters and allowed just two hits.
