Prep Central Week 8: Area volleyball teams finish regular season with victories

SATURDAY'S RECAPS

Volleyball

Pleasant Hill 3, Creswell 0: After Pleasant Hill earned its first state bid since 1998, the Billes kept the winning ball rolling with a three-set victory in the second round of the state playoffs over Creswell on Saturday, winning 25-14, 25-20, 26-24. Cheyenne Green led with 22 kills and 15 digs, while Emily Krauss had 11 digs and five kills.

Monroe 3, Oakridge 0: The Dragons defeated Oakridge in three sets in the Valley Coast Conference playoffs, winning 25-16, 25-13, 25-17. Bella Gamache had 17 kills and 12 digs; Josie Essner contributed nine kills and nine digs; and Hannah Hicks had seven kills and nine digs. Lainie Bateman had 24 assists.

THURSDAY'S RECAPS

Volleyball

Pleasant Hill 3, Siuslaw 2: The Billies finished the regular season with a five-set Mountain Valley Conference victory over Siuslaw (25-29, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-10) on Thursday. The Billies were led by sophomores Cheyenne Green with 26 kills, Emily Krauss with 14 digs, nine kills five aces, and Claire Crawford with 41 assists, nine kills and five aces.

Creswell 3, Elmira 0: The Bulldogs defeated Elmira, 25-16, 25-11, 25-22 in their final league game of the season. Leaders for Creswell were Lizabelle Osborn with 10 kills, nine aces, Samairah Quinones six digs, five kills and Caroline Spriggs had six assists and three kills.

Marist 3, North Bend 0: The Spartans defeated North Bend in three sets (25-13, 25-12, 25-18) to place second in the Sky-Em League. Giana Elgarico led the Spartans with 20 kills, 10 digs and an ace, Tyler Harding had 26 digs and an ace, and Camryn Sydow had 25 assists, 12 digs and three aces.

Sheldon 3, North Medford 0: The Irish defeated North Medford in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-10) to solidify as Southwest Conference champions. Elle Bruegman led with 15 digs, Gwen Fife has 13 kills and Kait Wood contributed seven kills. The team combined for 11 aces.

Soccer

Marist 7, Cottage Grove 0: Sela Freeman's four goals and assist led the Spartans to their 10th shutout on Thursday. Paige Meador had a goal and two assists, while Mattie Andrus and Kate Firth each scored a goal, and Andrus contributed an assist. Ava Snyder and Emma Hart combined for three assists.

WEDNESDAY'S RECAPS

Volleyball

North Eugene 3, Churchill 1: North Eugene's final Midwestern league game of the season, the Highlanders pulled a five-set victory over Churchill on Wednesday, winning 25-22, 16-25, 27-25, 19-25, 9-15. Amelia Gansen led the Lancers with 25 assists and 13 digs, Jaedyn Bones had eight kills and Lubna Ward had 29 digs.

Thurston 3, Springfield 2: The Colts battled their way through a five-set Midwestern League victory over Springfield on Wednesday, winning 25-18, 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13. Ashlynn Medlock led the Colts with 13 kills, eight digs and one ace, Emily Buller had 65 assists, four kills and three aces, while Bayleigh Wodke contributed 21 digs, 10 kills and two aces.

Sheldon 3, Grants Pass 0: The Irish swept Grants Pass in a three-set Southwest Conference victory (25-15, 25-17, 25-13) on Wednesday. Beaux Bruegman had 16 assists and 10 kills, Elle Bruegman had 16 digs and Gwen Fife contributed nine kills and eight digs. Alessia Libassi had 11 assists and Kait Wood had seven kills.

Girl's soccer

Pleasant Hill 8, Creswell 2: The Billies defeated Creswell in a Special District 3 league match on Wednesday. Seven different players scored goals, including seniors Emma Dyemartin and Paige Schenfeld, juniors Dakota Hyland and Tressa Geyer, and sophomores Rian Busby, Jordan Pierzina and Tessa Hammond. Six different players contributed assists in the Billies victory.

TUESDAY'S RECAPS

Girl's soccer

Marist 8, Marshfield 0: The No. 1 OSAA-ranked Marist clinched as Sky-Em League champions with an explosive shutout victory over Marshfield on Tuesday. Senior co-captain Sela Freeman led the Spartans with four goals and two assists, junior co-captain Cloe Chase scored two goals, while five other Spartans joined in on the action. The Spartans capped their 10th straight victory and ninth shutout of the season. "It was a solid team win and I'm proud of our players not just for clinching as Sky-Em League champions, but for keeping up the intensity and showing our quality regardless of the opponent or what the scoreboard says," Marist's head coach Stefan Schroffner said in an email.

Sheldon 1, South Eugene 0: Sheldon's Alexis Cockerill-Gonzalez goal off a corner kick by Mary Frances Sluga in the 53rd minute secured the Irish a one-nil victory over the Axe during Tuesday's Emerald Derby soccer match. Sheldon's goalkeeper Addison Dye-Blondell recorded five saves.

Volleyball

Creswell 3, La Pine 2: The No. 5 continued their dominant season with a grueling five-set Mountain Valley Conference match victory over La Pine, winning 25-16, 15-17, 27-29, 21-25, 15-8. Lizabelle Osborn led Creswell with 29 kills, while Kimberlee Kelsey had 43 assists and 10 aces. Samairah Quinones contributed 21 digs and seven kills; and Kendyl Whitson had five blocks.

MONDAY'S RECAPS

Boy's soccer

Central Linn 4, Pleasant Hill 3: Senior co-captain Adrian Arellano broke the state's all-time scoring mark with his 84th and 85th career goals during the Billies home loss to Central Linn on Monday. The previous record of 84 was shared by McMinnville's Frankie Lopez (2003-06) and Corvallis' Edgar Monroy (2016-19).

Girl's soccer

Pleasant Hill 1, Central Linn 1: The No. 9 OSAA-ranked Billies traveled to Halsey where they played the No. 4 Cobras to a 1-1 draw on Monday. Junior wing Lydia Whitney scored the Billies only goal in the third minute with an assist from sophomore Tessa Hammond. Freshman goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell recorded eight saves for the Billies.
