Prep football roundup: Patterson wins Thursday night, nine others win Friday

Patterson got the week started with a Thursday night victory over Central Valley in a Central California Conference matchup at Ceres High. The dominant showing included runs up the middle and short passes that turned into long gains after great downfield blocking. The Tigers earned their third league win this season and seventh overall, bouncing back from the league loss to Merced on Sept. 29.

Friday night Hughson, Gregori and Ripon Christian earned wins among other Stanislaus District teams in addition to Turlock, Central Catholic and Escalon. In total, nine local teams earned Friday night wins.

Davis earned its second win this season, getting the best of Beyer in a matchup between two Modesto Western Athletic Conference schools.

Pitman earned its first CCAL win this season, upsetting Enochs, which needed a win in order to stay alive in the playoff race. The Pride did not allow a point in the second half and scored 10 fourth-quarter points to secure the victory.

Lindhurst 38, Riverbank 7: The Bruins dropped their third straight contest Thursday night on the road against Lindhurst. They play their final game this season on Friday, Oct. 27 after a bye, hosting Mira Loma of Sacramento.

Patterson 51, Central Valley 6: Max Medina tossed a pair of touchdown passes and Jeremiah Lugo rushed for 146 yards and two scores. Coby Joseph and Cj Medina also added touchdowns on the ground. Central Valley scored its only points of the game on a long kickoff return from Josiah Sandoval on the opening kick of the second half.

Lathrop 31, Johansen 22: Tek Garcia rushed for a pair of touchdowns and Kean Saing added a pair of conversions but the Vikings weren’t able to earn their fourth league win against unbeaten Lathrop. The WAC title will be decided next week when the Spartans meet defending league champ Los Banos.

Hughson 28, Modesto Christian 14: Robert McDaniel completed 16 passes for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns. David Delgado, Larkin Meyer and Malakai Sumter were part of a well balanced receiving attack, each recording three or more catches for 55 or more yards.

Los Banos 35, Ceres 28: Donovan Osuna completed 15 of 30 passes for 217 yards and three touchdown passes but the Bulldogs could not come away with their third league win. In the loss, Manuel Mendoza recorded a season high 162 receiving yards.

Davis 28, Beyer 7: The Spartans earned their second win this season in Friday night’s battle between two WAC schools in Modesto. Davis finishes its season against Johansen and Ceres while Beyer plays Pacheco and Johansen in its final two games.

Pitman 22, Enochs 10: Enochs took a 10-6 halftime lead after an Ansel Mello field goal and Aiden Muhammad touchdown run but the second half belonged to the Pride. Pitman scored 16 straight second half points in its first CCAL game this season. It is the Pride’s second win of the year.

Livingston 28, Ripon 14: A 14-point third quarter gave Livingston the momentum it needed to secure a key TVL victory. Ripon had its chances, but could not score in the fourth quarter to get back within striking distance. Ripon falls to 1-2 in league play with games against Escalon and Hughson remaining.

Gregori 48, Modesto 6: Five rushing touchdowns were split between Michael Marsden (208 yards, 3 TDs) and Deandre White Jr. (42 yards, 2 TDs) in Gregori’s win over Modesto. The Jaguars defense came away with three interceptions and recovered a fumble.

Ripon Christian 49, Mariposa County 0: The Knights secured their third league shutout this season on Friday night. Sophomore Mason Tameling threw four touchdown passes. Dustin Hoekstra was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes in his return from offseason elbow surgery. Ripon Christian finishes the regular season with games against Gustine and Delhi.

Orestimba 66, Waterford 12: The Warriors defense allowed just two touchdowns as they secured their fourth Southern League win this season. They will have a chance to shake up the league standings in Week 11 against Gustine. Both teams currently sit at 4-1 in league play with the potential to be 5-1 should both teams win next week.
