Prep Football Roundup for Week 7

Sep. 30—Silver Bluff 49, Fox Creek 0

Silver Bluff opened Region 3-AA play with a bang Thursday, blowing out Fox Creek 49-0.

The Bulldogs (2-4, 1-0) host Batesburg-Leesville next week. The Predators (1-5, 0-1) travel to Pelion.

Aiken 21, Airport 7

Aiken got into the win column and earned a share of first place in Region 4-AAAA with a road win Thursday at Airport.

The Hornets (1-5, 1-0) host North Augusta next week for Homecoming.

Strom Thurmond 40, Batesburg-Leesville 0

Strom Thurmond scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to turn Thursday's Region 3-AA opener against Batesburg-Leesville into a blowout.

Quan Edmond passed for 154 yards and touchdown passes to Gregory Bryant and Dallas Hitt, three different backs scored rushing touchdowns, and Darius Simpkins recovered a blocked punt for a score.

The Rebels (4-2, 1-0) have now won four games in a row and visit Class AA No. 1 Saluda next week.

Wagener-Salley 41, Williston-Elko 6

Wagener-Salley rolled on Wednesday night for the War Eagles' third consecutive victory, keeping Williston-Elko winless this season.

Jawaine Gleaton and Brandon Pontoon each had big nights again on the offensive and defensive lines for the War Eagles (4-3, 3-0 Region 4-A), both grading out at over 90% while clearing the way for 334 rushing yards. Both had six tackles on defense, as well. Dakota Vargas had nine tackles, with three of those for loss, and Christ Kitchings had touchdown catches of 33 and 41 yards.

Williston-Elko (0-6, 0-3) will look for its first win of the season next week when the Blue Devils host Hunter-Kinard-Tyler. Wagener-Salley is off next week before the Aiken County Class A rivalry game Oct. 14 at Ridge Spring-Monetta.

Barnwell 42, Edisto 6

Class AA No. 3 Barnwell cruised to a win over Edisto on Wednesday to open Region 6-AA play.

The Warhorses (7-0, 1-0) led 42-0 at the half. They're off next week and will resume region play Oct. 14 at Ridgeland-Hardeeville.

Blackville-Hilda 32, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler 14

Head coach Kevin Jones picked up his first win at Blackville-Hilda on Wednesday as the Fighting Hawks beat Hunter-Kinard-Tyler in Region 4-A play.

Blackville-Hilda (1-5, 1-2) visits Ridge Spring-Monetta next Friday.

Denmark-Olar 53, Ridge Spring-Monetta 37

Ridge Spring-Monetta lost in region play Wednesday at Denmark-Olar despite a huge night from DeAnte Hopkins.

Hopkins rushed for 221 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries, and on defense he made a team-high 10 total tackles.

The Trojans (1-5, 1-1 Region 4-A) host Blackville-Hilda next week.
