Prep Football Roundup: Young leads way as Oak Hills improves to 3-0

Shane Young accounted for three touchdowns to help lead the Oak Hills football team to a 55-14 victory over Palmdale on Friday night.

Young caught a 47-yard touchdown pass from Diego Lopez, took a punt 55 yards to the house as well as a kickoff for 82 yards.

Lopez, a junior, completed seven passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

On the ground, Karson Cox ran for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Shalon Young also had a touchdown run with 54 yards.

Defensively, Quamaine Thomas led the way with a 34-yard pick six and six tackles.

“Karson and Shaylon are running the ball really well for us and Diego is getting more comfortable and coming into his own at quarterback,” Oak Hills head coach Robert Metzger said. “On defense, the kids are bought in and flying around to the ball. They are playing great, improving every week and that’s all we can ask for as coaches.”

Oak Hills (3-0) hosts Citrus Valley next week.

Citrus Valley 51, Silverado 20

At Redlands, the Hawks suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night.

The Blackhawks jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first half and never looked back. Citrus Valley also scored 17 points in the second and third quarters.

Quarterback Gabriel Campos threw touchdown passes to Richard Reed, Joshua Washington and Darren Gandy.

Silverado (2-1) heads to Summit next week for another Thursday night game.

Granite Hills 54, Arroyo Valley 21

At San Bernardino, the Cougars improved to 3-0 on the season with a victory on the road Friday night.

Kameron Smith, the Daily Press’ Athlete of the Week, ran for two touchdowns and also took a kickoff to the house.

Joey Soto also added two rushing touchdowns.

Byron Ruvas threw touchdown passes to Malik Kinney and Theodore Wiggins.

Granite Hills (3-0) is finally home next week with a showdown against Sultana, which is also 3-0.

Hesperia Christian 50, Desert Christian 3

At Hesperia, Arlan Koester threw three touchdown passes to lead the Patriots to their first victory of the season Friday night.

Koester ended the night completing four passes for 85 yards.

Shiloh Stabile scored a rushing touchdown and ran a punt back 70 yards for a score.

Roderick Taylor led the defense with three sacks and six tackles.

Hesperia Christian (1-1) hosts Trona next week.

Victor Valley 35, Twentynine Palms 7

At Victorville, the Jackrabbits celebrated their home opener with a victory Friday night.

Elliot Beasley led the way by scoring a rushing touchdown and recording five sacks on defense.

Deshaun Clark caught a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Gerfren Simeon, Victor Villa and Jay Pride all scored rushing touchdowns.

Victor Valley (2-1) is back home next week for the Bell Game against Apple Valley.
