PREP GIRLS: Lady Blue cruises past Hermleigh 82-43

Dec. 6—LUBBOCK — Sophomore Makylee Baldwin poured in a personal-best 24 points on Saturday as Farwell trounced Hermleigh 82-43 in a neutral-court game played at Lubbock Christian's Rip Griffin Center.

Farwell (4-3) led 16-6 at the quarter, then blew the Lady Cardinals' doors off with a 25-point third period. Senior Charlie Trimble added 18 points and sophomore Bella Jaime 11 for the Lady Blue.

For Class 1A Hermleigh (4-2), Lynzie Atkison tallied 10 points.

In area girls tournaments over the weekend:

Adrian (Texas) tournament — Bovina completed an easy sweep of the four-team, round-robin event on Saturday, blitzing the host Lady Matadors 60-29 and Amarillo Holy Cross 35-12.

Idaly Garcia scored 19 points for the Fillies (4-5) against Adrian while Shelby Long led the Lady Matadors with 14. Against Holy Cross, Destiny Lara tallied eight points for Bovina, with Isabel Brittan had seven for the Lady Mustangs.

On Friday, Bovina thumped the Hereford freshmen 46-29, getting 12 points from junior Lesley Esparza, nine from sophomore Cassie Marquez and eight from Garcia.

American Bank tournament, Melrose — Junior Graci Odom's 23 points led the host Lady Buffs back to the championship circle after a runner-up finish in last season's event, as Melrose trounced Tatum 75-52 in Saturday's title game.

Seniors Paityn Nicholson and Isabelle Sena each chipped in 16 points and senior Sorrell Allen 10 for the Lady Buffs (4-0), who led 44-24 after three and then outscored Tatum 31-28 in a wild final frame. Meantime, the Lady Coyotes (2-2) got 18 points from sophomore Louann Vilasenol and 11 each from senior Clara Jimenez and freshman Avery Henard.

Meantime, Quemado (4-1) posted a 57-40 victory over Grady (2-2) for fifth place while Gateway Christian (1-3) handed Floyd (0-3) a 49-20 setback in the seventh-place game.

Quemado stretched a four-point lead with a 15-9 run in the third quarter. The Lady Eagles put three players in double figures, with freshmen Chaycie Perguson and Ruby Jacobs netting 14 and 13, respectively, and junior Katelyn Orthman scoring 10.

For the Lady Bronchos, junior Shayla White had 14 points and sophomore Juanita Ramirez contributing 11.

Nazareth Invitational — After dropping a 51-28 pool-play verdict on Friday to Canadian, Texas' fourth-ranked Class 3A girls squad, Muleshoe came back for wins over Smyer 60-41 and Olton 47-33 on Saturday to claim ninth-place in the 12-team event.

Senior Aaliyah Sanchez scored 13 points for the Lady Mules (7-6) against Canadian, which opened a 20-point halftime lead.

On Saturday, Sanchez finished with 18 points and senior Kendra Kelley added 13 against Smyer. Down by two at halftime, Muleshoe outscored the Lady Bobcats 38-17 in the second half.

Sophomore Meagan Smith had 14 points and freshman Rylee Riedel 10 for Smyer (5-6).

In their finale, the Lady Mules dominated from the get-go and rode a 13-point outing from senior Areceli past Olton (2-12), which got 12 points from senior Makenly Smith.

Lady Maverick Fiesta tournament, Lordsburg — Texico won its finale on Saturday in the six-team tournament, beating the Lordsburg junior varsity 54-26 behind 17 points from junior Kaya New and 13 from sophomore Desiree Holman.

The Lady Wolverines (2-2) had a 10-point lead at halftime, but held the Lordsburg JV to just nine points the rest of the night in pulling away. Eighth-grader Natalie Guerrero paced the Lady Mavericks with 11 points.

On Friday, Cliff notched a 52-23 win over Texico as the Cowgirls (4-1) got 12 points from senior Jordan Clifton. New led the Lady Wolverines with 11 points.

J.P. Stone Invitational, Dora — The homestanding Lady Coyotes fell in the third-place matchup, dropping a 48-27 decision to the Portales junior varsity. Junior Brenna Jewell scored 17 points for the Lady Rams, while juniors Bre'Ann Rodriguez and Faith Jasso had 13 and 10, respectively, for Dora (3-2).

In the seventh-place contest, Corona handed Elida (0-4) a 57-32 setback.
